Hubby and I have booked in a date night for mid Feb, to celebrate his birthday and Valentines day.

It's also the first time SIL will be doing the bedtime routine with DS and putting him to bed (he can be a bit difficult - nearly 3 yo) so we don't want to be too far away from home just in case.

We live in Berwick so are looking for something in the south east, but preferably not in Berwick as we want to try a new restaurant

Cuisine is not an issue, we both like almost all different types, but would prefer something other than pub type fare. For a really great meal we will be happy to fork out a couple hundred for dinner for the two of us. Not big drinkers so wine etc not an issue.


Please recommend me something FAB!

I am really excited and am looking forward to a nice leisurely dinner that doesn't involve a squirmy toddler!!

What about Black Toro in Glen Waverley - you can do a set menu (they take into account your likes/dislikes) and have lots of different things. The dessert tasting plate is heaven for those with a sweet tooth! You'd probably need to book now for a Friday/Saturday.

Not sure how far you want to travel but our last date night was at Quaff in Toorak, food was amazing (I had two entrees for main so I could have as many different things as possible). I've already suggested we go again soon.

Have you tried Clover Cottage in Berwick - I haven't been there but it is always raved about.

Or there is Sky High in The Dandenongs - probably lots of couples there that night. The view may make up for the food if it isn't up to scratch. ( I have been there for a wedding and it was nice food)

I'll second Black Toro. Those pulled pork tacos are yum! As is the corn, and the margaritas...

I second Quaff I work literally just up the road and walk past most days and would happily sit in there or Romeo's any day of the week. But you would be a monash drive away (which is not bad at all at night) so not sure how close you mean by close.

Glendower in upper beaconsfield has a really nice and different (IMO) atmosphere, and would be very close to where you are.

clover cottage is also a plus but you might struggle to get in 2 weeks out especially with valentines.

Oh and I think DH may have to visit Toro in the next few months!

Funnily enough we aren't huge fans of either Clover Cottage or Skyhigh, the atmosphere is nice but the food generally underwhelming.

I'll speak with DH re Quaff as he is more worried than I about being too far. I actually did look at the Glendower website today, so will let DH peruse the menu to see if it appeals.

how about heading to the country? Brandy Creek Winery or Wild Dog Winery? Big Spoon Little Spoon in Warragul has also had rave reviews. Gilded Lily in Loch, ambroisas Berwick

Romeo's was our first dinner date 24 years ago when we were impoverished students, we still go a few times/year

I've looked at the Sky High website (it's ages since I've been up that way), looks like a fun outing with the kids, especially with the kiosk.

The Court House in Warragul is great, thoughly recommend it.

Also Chilli and Chice in Beaconsfield is fabulous Thai.

For our wedding anniversary last year we had dinner at Eighty One - on High st, knw you said yo wanted to go away from Berwick but I really loved it!
