I am studying bachelor of nursing online, part time (2 subjects per semester). I am wondering if I qualify for the 50% child care rebate. I looked online and it said you have to have 15 hours of study per week - does online study count?

Also, how do I work out how many hours my 2 subjects add up to? I am basically doing half of the full time load.

Yes online does count.

You would definitely be doing at least 15 hours which is all that matters, so either ring up or change your details online. For me changing online was as simple as saying I was studying, no other info was required. Much better than an hour plus wait on the phone!

But I am already in the Centrelink system. If you arent then I'm sure its a bit more complicated than that

I studied part time through OUA and it counted.

I think they considered part time as 20 hours, but not sure.

It doesn't matter how many hours you study for to get the rebate, and yes, online course count. To be eligible for 50 hours of child care benefit/rebate per week, you need to be studying or working for more than 15 hours er week. Less than that and you qualify for 24 hours.

How do they work out how many hours a week a subject is worth?

I mean, when I was at uni subjects varied in how many credit points they were worth and you were supposed to use the credit points as some sort of indication of how many hours you were supposed to put in each week in private study.

There is no minimum participation amount for CCR. The 15 hours applies if you want to qualify for more than 24 hours of CCB.

I am so glad to hear it qualifies. It will make it so much easier to cope if DS is in childcare a few days per week.
