I want to make a basic cake for my daughter's birthday party on Sunday. Do you think I could bake something tomorrow and ice it Sat and it be good for Sunday, or even do the whole thing tomorrow
I know mud cake keeps well, but I wanted just a plain vanilla cake. Do you think any recipe would be ok, or do some keep better than others. Thanks

The butter helps the cake keep. A butter cake will last much better than a sponge. You could also freeze it before you ice it.

I baked my DDs cake 2 days before her birthday, and iced it the day before, just as you would like to do.
It was a butter cake (the head) and a chocolate cake (the body) from the women's weekly cake cookbook. I personally found the butter cake a bit dry, but the chocolate was perfect. Not sure if I did something wrong but I bake heaps so I would like to think not wink.gif
