So - my baby boy starts school for the first time on Tuesday.

I've taken Monday off work, and DD will be in daycare - I am planning on taking him out and having a day of one-on-one time together, a special treat for both of us before he goes off to school.

I'm really not sure what to do, though.

We're in Sydney - I've thought about Luna Park, or the Water Works, or something like that, but I'm still not sure.

Can anyone think of anything that would be an awesome day out for a 5 year old boy in Sydney?

One of the museums? We go to the Powerhouse, then catch a monorail into the city for lunch and browsing.

You could do any of those things - Coney Island at Luna Park and the rides behind it (ie; the younger kids rides were great).

Or you could go to Darling Harbour playground/water playground (with spare set of clothes) and just hang out together, have lunch in Chinatown (maybe) or maccas is really close...nice cafe and glass of wine for you. Monorail ride?

Parking is a killer on a week day though in the city.

Manly? There are the water spout thingies in the mall on the way from the ferry to the beach. I did that for a day out with my DS (he's 5 too) and the ferry ride was the highlight for him. Lunch in the pub was pretty good for me (pub on the wharf), really nice prawn salad, pizzas, crayons and stuff for kids ....there is also the aquarium there....a lot more low key than the one at Darling Harbour but thats the nice part about it too.

We did Light Rail to the Powerhouse museum the other day, my nearly-5yo loved it - they have a Wallace & Gromit exhibition on at the moment, so I let him watch some YouTube clips of the show in the morning before we went and he was an instant fan!
