DS has been watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars on ABC3 and loves it. Runs around pretending to be a Jedi.

I haven't watched it for probably 10-15 years, and not sure whether it would be appropriate for DS to watch - he's 6yo and in Year 1.

So I was hoping some EB'ers with more Star Wars experience could suggest when's appropriate to meet The Force??

I was 6 when I first watched SW. DS has been watching the original films since he was 3. He adores everything Star Wars and is 8 now. I am 39 and still love to sit down and watch them.

I am a big believer in the never too old or too young for Star Wars.

Oh and if you plan to show all of them to your child go A New Hope, Empire, Jedi, skip the crappy Phantom Menace, Clone Wars then Revenge of the Sith - Phantom Menace is an abomination and the others are barely passable.

If he's watching Clone Wars and is ok he can probably cope with the movies. Clone Wars can be pretty dark, my DH watches it. We are debating when to introduce our son to it, I'm thinking 8, DH thinks earlier.

I was 6 too when I saw StarWars at the cinema!

OP the original trilogy are OK - I wouldn't show the new ones too early though, especially the 3rd.

My Star Wars friends have started at about 4 - 7 depending on the child.

My kids liked the clone wars cartoons, but really got I to it from the Lego Star Wars TV episodes (two each thirty mins long).

The. It was an easy jump to Star Wars a New Hope, Empire, Jedi and then back to the first three.


There was also an article in the Age recently which referred to the Machete order.... Do New Hope, Empire then back to no 2&3 before going to Jedi and missing the first entirely.

My kids are 3,5,7 and love Star Wars. DD is three and always talks about them.


ETA I was three and still remember seeing the original at the Movies. My little sister at three could recite the whole dialogue of the first three released.

I was 6 when it first came out on VHS and remember sitting around with my whole family at my grandparents', eating pizza and deciding I was going to be Princess Leia when I grew up. I, personally, think 6 is fine (for the right kid, of course).

My daughter is seven and has watched all three of the original films. She's currently watching Empire Strikes back!

My son is 6.5 and he just watched the Star Wars films a few months ago. He is obsessed! He has seen 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. He found Empire Strikes Back a bit too downbeat, and he doesn't want to see Revenge of the Sith yet as he knows scary/sad stuff happens in it.

Depressingly enough his favourites are 1 and 2, followed by 6. He loves Jar Jar Binks, and the ewoks! We showed him the original trilogy first and it still didn't prevent him falling in love with Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, he even loves that hyper annoying kid in ep1.

Yep we've just watched episodes iv, v & vi. My daughter, at 6, particularly got into it. My son, at 4.5 loved it but didn't really understand it all (after 3 movies he still wasn't sure who Han Solo was!)

we are now going to start on i, ii & iii although I'm wary of iii - its very very dark.

I'm just so excited I will get to take my kids to the next three as well. I remember the thrill of going to see Empire, Jedi and, yes, even Phantom Menace, Clones, and Sith, at the movies and would love for them to experience it!
