I'm trying to change my habits and get healthier and lose weight. I struggle to eat breakfast and wanted to give smoothies a try. What's your tries and tested recipes and favourites?

Also, I have both a stick and a regular blender, what's better?

Personally, I don't think smoothies are a way to lose weight. They tend to be high in calories, are consume too quickly for your natural satiety to kick in, and are digested rapidly as the blender has done half the work for you.

Make your own muesli - rolled oats with whatever dry fruit and nuts you like. Eat a half cup with some milk, slowly. Fewer calories, and will keep you full for ages. Have a boiled egg mid morning if you start to flag (just one).

I like;
1 cup of skim milk
1 banana
some oats or muesli
a blob of yoghurt
a handful of blueberries
a small amount of flax or similar

I do it in my Thermochef so things like oats blend in really well

Yeah I am with AvadaKedavra, if you start adding up all the calories from the stuff you put into the smoothie, then they add up and don't end up being worth it.

Though if you do want to persist, I would recommend using some sort of Protein powder in it, maybe like the Michelle Bridges one made by Nature's Own.

I could go a Boost now! LOL.

I agree with the above poster's that if you add fruit/yoghurt etc it does add up to ALOT of calories...I usually blend a choc protein powder with ice, part skim milk & a shot of coffee for a mocha shake for brekky.

Fruit smoothies sound great but not for weightloss as the amount of fruit you need equates to alot of sugar.

So too much calories from fruit is the killer?

Ok, another question about healthy eating then. You seem to need a degree to figure out what cereals are really healthy from their labels. Weet bix with a chopped banana and lite white? Sustain cereal with lite white?

I've tried the muesli and I've tried porridge but yuck to both. The only healthier milk I've liked us lite white also.

Also wanted to say that milky stuff usually sends me straight to the bathroom (tmi) with stomach cramps, but lite white doesn't do that to me.

how about an egg or two on a piece of sourdough bread, that way you are avoiding dairy which does not seem to agree with you. The other option for smoothies is almond, oat or rice milk. Google green smoothies.... these are great for you original.gif
