My DS is 3 years 9 months and skinny! He is outgrowing his current seat, as in there's only an inch before his head is too high for it, but all the seats for older children I have seen say they are for a child who weighs at least 15kg (and often 17kg). DS is 13kg.

Any recommendations?

A Safe'n'Sound model, might be Guardian? It was a hand-me-down from a friend whose boy is 9 months older.

When you say there's only an inch before he's too tall, does that mean there's an inch of hard shell above his head? He can stay in it until his eyes are level with the top of the seat.

Otherwise, you could check out a convertible booster with higher height markers. I've heard good things about the new maxi rider easy adjust.

He legally can't go into a dedicated booster until he's 4yo.

Like PP have said a seat is outgrown height wise when the eyes/ears are level with the top/sides of the seat or when the shoulders are more than 2.5cm above top shoulder slot.
