I am trying to work out what would be the best volunteer work to do.
I am currently looking at a food bank, where people who need a bit of a help can come and get food cheaply.
I have also done a few turns at meals on wheels but did not feel it was my thing.
The trouble is that the more I look, the more I see great organisations that I would like to help.
So if anyone on EB does volunteer work, what sort do you do and do you think you make a difference.
I don't want to appear to be bragging but I have been fortunate that I have this spare time to fill, and I realise that it could quite easily have been me who needs a helping hand to get things back on track.

Our local area has a Volunteers Resource Centre but not everywhere has that.

I worked at a Community Information Centre (aka Community Advice Bureau). They are everywhere. You could check out the one nearest you.

Dunno about measuring whether you personally are making a difference or not. You just do it. Obviously many organisations depend on volunteers. The country and the world does ultimately.

I volunteer at a community advice bureau type thing. Absolutely love it you do need to do some training if you don't have prior qualifications.

Op shops also look for volunteers and some of the smaller charities really depend on this income to fund whatever services they give.

If its an area that interests you you VIC not sure about other states though has some volunteer positions as part of the Office of public advocate

I volunteered at the down syndrome society helping them teach life skills to people with Down syndrome.

I loved it, they were young adults learning to live independently and it involved teaching things like washing, cooking, how to read signs, being able to put a signature to documents and things like that.
Unfortunately I became quite sick and had to give it away, but I really enjoyed it while I was going.

I am a nurse with a background in alcohol & drug, immunisations etc.
I have contacted a few places and have been blown away by how much demand there is for any kind of help I can give.
