I've just started a new job, Mon-Fri school hours. I was just wondering what do you do when your kids are sick, do you take the day off, does hubby take the day off, have you carers/parents you can call on.

Given I have 5 kids and we are meant to be in for a shocker of a year sickness wise, I think I am going to need some sort of back up when my husband and I can't take the time off.

I take DD to work, but I'm lucky that I can. Being a cleaner I work when the business is closed so it's just me and the manager who is happy to play with DD for hours. Depends on the illness though, because she will only sleep in a cot and there isn't one at work.

On weekends she stays with my Dads girlfriend or my cousin.

Otherwise, I stay home.

My youngest started prep this year so to date I've only worked Saturdays and Mondays since the kids were born and my preppie had a cold today, not overly sick but had I not had to go to work I probably would have kept her home, but instead I drugged her up and sent her

There's just DH and me, no back up. No family within 1000km and our friends work as well.

DH and I try to alternate as much as possible, but I probably do a bit more sick leave than DH, purely because my workplace is more flexible. Last year was our first hideous year with the kids tag-teaming being sick for 4 months or so (it really felt like forever). Thankfully our bosses realised there was nothing we could do about it. When I could, I worked from home, even if it was just a few hours each day. I was so glad when we came out of the other side of that.

generally it boils down to me... sometimes DP can help out if he isn't at uni or work but he only works as casual so doesn't get paid sick leave.

Rarely Ex can help, he usually helps if i have to work late etc.

DS dad lives over 5 hours away so my back up plan is my mother and would ask my father if desperate. Otherwise, I call in sick.

there us just us. We take turns. Sometimes if we both have something on, we will do half days each. we have three kids but luckily, they are pretty healthy.
