I'm worried about my DS.

He's been working so hard on his apprenticeship and was planning on going into business with my DH (stepfather). But in the last few months he's fallen in with a really strange group.

They say they don't care about money, and pool all their resources. But I think they are taking advantage of him, because he has a trade and is coming into a business. Most of them don't work at all, just hang around the river catching a few fish and having these big philosophy sessions. There's a couple of girls in the group, one is pretty much a prostitute from what I understand.

He's just such a trusting person, I don't know how to handle it. Do I try to separate him from the group?

sanity is overrated
I have nothing of much value to add but:
Tread carefully. Do not tell him he is wrong or they or wrong or you we not 'win' that argument.

Con Sprezzatura.
It's hard to know based on just what you've said.

Here is a list of characteristics of cults - it might be helpful for you to look over and see if it rings bells.

Only if the prostitute starts singing "I don't know how to love him", "everything's alright now" or 'Can we start again please?".

All I know is to tread very carefully... because what you do say against this group may push him further into it...

Look, I reckon it sounds ok... It's not like anyone will remember anything about it in another two thousand years or so anyway.
