This article reports claims made by an English academic that religious rights are often seen as less than or subordinate to other rights, and also that the religious rights of Christians are often treated particularly poorly.

He's talking about England, but I've often seen similar claims made on EB. I'd like to know what others have experienced. Have your employers or other authorities interfered with your practise of your faith? Do you feel that you're expected to subordinate issues of conscience? How do you handle it? And what do you make of the article?

By this (subordinate) do you mean you have to put issues of conscience aside and do things that 'go against' your religious conscience?

If so, yes. I end up handling it by just not saying anything because although I don't find it much IRL it's impossible to really speak on EB on a significant number of issues. When I have in the past the disapproval, disbelief and general frowning has been quite alienating. Now I tend to just not say anything.

But in general life I don't find that religion makes a whole lot of difference. if I talk about it IRL people listen politely and ask questions if they find it odd. I am rarely challenged or given a negative viewpoint/hard time. If the others are uncomfortable we generally just change the subject and everyone keeps on their merry way.

Yeah, I guess that's what I meant. I can remember, for example, finding it difficult when I worked for a business that expected me to lie to extract more money from clients. (I worked around it, but I was working on finding a new job at the same time!)
