Hi Everyone,

My DD1 is 2 weeks in kindergarten.

I received an email from her teacher today by saying:

"I am currently doing assessments with all children and will endeavour to finish by Friday. *** is assessed as reading at an instructional level of 11."

What does this level 11 mean?
Too high, too low or just right?
What should I do?

So confused.

Anyone knows about this? (forget to mention that we are in Sydney, NSW)

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds good. Usually level 5 is a minimum for the end of kindy so level 11 now is good. Instructional level usually refers to a reading accuracy of 90-95 percent. That level of accuracy allows the reader to maintain appropriate phrasing and fluency while still needing to do a bit of work but that bit of work isnt so great it will interfer with the meaning of the text. Hope that makes sense.

If it is the same levels that I am used to, level 11 is well above the expected level for the beginning of FYOS. We were told the expected level for the end of FYOS is 5-8.
