Our poor cat, is not a well cat.
Noticed a lump on his back Monday afternoon/evening... wasn't painful to touch, and he was eating and running around still. Was planning to take to vet today (thurs) or Fri if still there. He is an inside/outside cat, and when outside he is on our property on either of our two verandahs. DD went to feed him yesterday and he was on the verandah asleep in his chair. She then said he won't get up ont he table mum (where we leave his food bowl so the dog does not get to it), l went to check him and found him in the backyard just sitting there, was calling him and he was answering (very chatty cat) but not coming to me. I picked him up and saw his back hind leg dangling. Thought oh no he has a broken leg. Called Dh to let him know and then tried to call the vets (who was not opened yet), so took the cat with us dropped kids off and headed to vets. They checked him out and said its either (they thought he had a heart murmur.. but later that was not the case), but thought it was either a fracture or a heart diesease where a blot clot forms and will move down and then cause weakness in the hind legs. So there was a chance if they sedated him for the x-ray we could loose him. anyhow after much running around with picking DH up so we could go to vet, with vet calling us to say x-ray went well and it looks more like a fracture of the iliac (pelvis). Meanwhile the vet had been doing some research and calling people as all did not seem right, unsure how the cat had got the fracture, no sign of tramua, no wound, no bruising.... His x-ray does not look too good, and there are two maybe causes.... bone cancer Osteosarcoma or a bone infection..... both unusal esp the cancer... So now do we give him a bone biopsy, or leave him and let the bone heal on its own and just give him rest, love and comfort in his last days... And all this on my birthday..... i wish l could start the day again. |

Oh poor puss. What a tough decision. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for him and I hope your birthday improves.

Cats pretty miserable today, all he wants to do is go outside... he's not eating or drinking but still managing to purr for us. He can't really move but l have moved him onto our bed for comfort and let him lie on the bed for his last time.
He wants lots of tickles and rubs under the chin (something he never wants) so l think he knows this is it too. We made the decision to put him to sleep tomorow am. The vet says he won't recover and we do not want him to suffer... Such a hard decision to make, but at least we get to say goodbye and spend some quality time with him and tell him we love him. |

OP, that is so sad. What an awful decision to make.
I hope being able to say goodbye helps a little. |

So sorry OP - that is sad and not what you want on your birthday. Give lots of cuddles and listen to those soothing purrs. Sometimes it is the kindest thing to do rather than force painful intervention, so be kind to yourself and know you want your cat to suffer as little as possible.
