Hi,

We are going camping at easter with friends and i have just found out their youngest has been diagnosed with Peanut allergy.

I am going to be careful about what we take (as no allergy in family not sure how accurate labels are, as lots seem to say may have traces of nuts) but just in case does washing hands with hand sanitiser "wash off" any traces of nuts after you have eaten?

I ask as we will be a long way from a hospital but, not far from a town and friend and i have had epipen training.

But as it is a campsite, water will be at a premium, so does it help?
Also what other precautions should i take?

Sorry if this is stupid question

Here's a link to a discussion about it:

It seems that soap and water is the best option, followed by moist wipes. Hand sanitizers are for killing viruses and bacteria, not removing protein.

no hand sanitisers don't. Have some wipes, just don't take anything with peanuts with you. The child would have to eat something that contains peanuts to have anaphylaxis. Talk to the mum about may contain traces as many of us don't worry too much about those statements!
