Just wondering if anyone has tried to do this and what was the outcome. I saw a 2 night hotel special on Scoopon and am considering contacting the hotel directly to see if they will match the price, the theory being that they come out ahead as they don't have to pay a percentage (or however it is done) to Scoopon. I am flexible with dates so could probably give them 3 or 4 different possible dates. Thoughts?

Give me my coffee and no one gets hurt!!!
You can try it, but be prepared that they may impose the same conditions as the scoopon deal. IE. only available on certain dates, so you won't be any better off. They usually sell these deals to Scoopon becasue they are trying to fill space during quiet periods

Personally we've had better luck with using hotels own price match guarantees.

We found a deal for 40% off on expedia for a 5* hotel in NYC. The hotel chain had a price match plus extra 25% off if you found a price online cheaper than they quoted.

Got a quote on the phone reservation line for about $100 more than the expedia deal. I then advised them I wanted to do the price match deal. I had to give them the website and they checked it while on the phone.

10 minutes later I had a hotel room for almost 70% off the normal rate

I figure I won't be better off price wise but I wouldn't be paying up front then finding out I can't get a room on any of my possible dates.

I don't think I've seen any Austraian hotels who do better than match prices.

I tried doing this direct with a hotel deal from Scoopon (Queensland resort) and they said they were unable to do it for me but would hold my requested dates while I purchased the Scoopon and rang back the following morning with the details, unfortunatly they didn't have my available dates. I have however, had luck with contacting a hotel direct (sydney city, few years ago)and they matched a Wotif deal for me.
