I've been tossing up between the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kobo Glo for a few days and I think I am just about set on the Kindle... I prefer the screen layout (ie no spaces between paragraphs) and from what I have read, the Kindle seems to have a few less glitches than the Kobo (the touch screen can be a bit dodgy on the Kobo apparently). I'm not too concerned about being locked into the Amazon store because I love Amazon, and I have already heard about Calibre anyway, so that's all good, but the thing that I am a bit worried about is the "special offers" (ads). How often do you see them?? Is it like a banner that runs across the screen / does it flash up at the begining of the book / or each paragraph... how does it work? If it's only once per book, I can live with that, but if I spend $170 on this and then wind up looking at ads every page or paragraph, I think I am going to get annoyed.

So, any ideas?

I have a Kindle Paperwhite, the version with the ads is not available for shipping to Australia directly from Amazon. I tried to buy that one first given the cheaper price but just went with the more expensive one in the end. No regrets whatsoever!

I have one and I love it!

The Paperwhite also reads epub format so I am assuming you will be able to buy from bookshops other than Amazon, however I haven't tried it so not completely sure on that.

With the versions that have the ads, I believe they are in place of the screensaver pictures, they don't appear in the book

Awesome... Thank you! d*ck Smith have them for $169 so I'm off to get one today ... I've wanted an ereader for a couple of years so I'm a bit excited!
