OK so now I actually have a question for you all. The insurance co is writing off the car as a total loss. so we've got a bit over $20K to buy a new car. First we have to decide whether to buy something for that or whether to maybe put in another $10K and buy something bigger/newer. I want only 4 cylinders but nice and roomy (ie can fit 3 car seats across the back seat). So basically the economy of running a small car with the roominess of a big car. Not asking much hey? DH of course wants to get a subaru again but I personally feel we could get a bigger/newer car for cheaper IYKWIM. I'm a bit partial to getting a poeple mover (I like the look of a Holden Zafira) but DH doesnt want to, claiming that we are then buying a car to suit other peoples needs, so I can transport their kids around IYKWIM (like I care what he thinks ROFL). I dont want a 4WD, although I might possibly go for a small 4WD if it was roomy and economical (and I couldnt talk DH into a Zafira and he couldnt talk me into another subaru). A Camry is probably the logical choice given my requirements, but it just seems so Mumsy IYKWIM hmmm so any suggestions? *disclaimer* This thread is not intended as an avenue to slag off anyone elses car choices (looking at you LisaPCOS and Amber) *warning* I will personally come and scratch my keys down the side of the car if anyone sends this thread AWOL. I dont want to be blamed for starting ANOTHER thread about 4WD's LOL. *NOTE* just to be safe no one is to mention Misty-Jo, VBACS, formula, controlled crying, cloth nappies or terms like "little devil" (when referring to your child) in this thread. Nah Tarago's are too big and have next to no boot space (did I mention that I have a monster pram that I will not be parted with). Plus they are really ugly and expensive. Milly Elizabeth- March 2000- Matilda- March 2003-

You've got to go the commodore wagon Milly! You know how much I lurve my boot space and it will fit 3 seats across the back (just). Plus they are cheap, and Richard said he will buy one for you at the govt. auctions if you want. You can save a lot of money that way. R wants to get the new commodore 4WD, but it's 6 cylinder (if not 8?) and a 4WD.... Cat PS - R said he'll bid for anything at auction for you (not just a wagon) if they are available. Offer is there if you want it, but we'll chat about it IRL. Angus - 18th June 2002 DS - due 5th June 2004

How exciting! New car time! Bet you thought you could slip this thread by me Milly! Never! LOL Well let me be the first to say BIG THUMBS DOWN to the Tarago - how embarrassment! LOL I LUUUUUUUURVE those Mazda's Shel!!!!! Just love them, they look so snazzy! But a pocket rocket nevertheless. LOL GO THE HOLDEN COMMODORE WAGON. Oh boy I'd love to pick up a new Holden Adventra too, but will wait for the next few models to roll out first, never buy the first one! LOL Oh boy if only I a choice; the HSV Grange; Monaro blah blah blah, the list goes on. When I win Lotto I'll have a different car for every mood! Milly, don't be too devastated about the Zafira - I didn't think much of them to be honest. Bit small for my liking! Look, the only thing I popped in to say was I'll be happy with whatever your choice, as long as it's a HOLDEN!! Rightio Amber, you're up...............

hmmm, but can I actually trust R to not blow the budget and come home with the right car? (Who is a bit skeptical as R was sent to the auctions to buy a new commodore station wagon for the family and came home with a Jeep cherokee. Cat spat it and 6 weeks later the Jeep was gone and she had her wagon ;p). Milly Elizabeth- March 2000- Matilda- March 2003-

Lisa are you listening, no slagging of Amber ok? Did I also mention that I live in Fremantle, which is Bogan city in WA. Oh hangon I think that is a WA term, what the hell is a bogan called in the Eastern States? Anyway they wear tight black jeans, and drive "bog" laps around the streets of Fremantle in their big hotted up monaro's with the base music up loud. Alot of them are european descent with mullets. So you will understand if I want to avoid that look ok? So large V8 holdens are out. Actually Lisa, sounds like a trip to Freo would be a holiday in heaven for you . A Camry isn't mumsy at all, my sister just bought a Camry Altise for just under $27,000 and it's great. Very roomy, good handling, great for three kids in the back. Camry Sportivo is nice too. They rate well on safety rating tests.
DH and I give a thumbs-down to a Mazda 6, I loved them but our friend got his for $42,000 and it didn't seem worth all that money to us, like so much money for not much car. If it was much cheaper then fine, but for that much money nope, not for us. I'm glad we got to drive it because it really changed our opinion.
If you wanted to go second hand, a Volkswagen Passat is a good choice. Responds well, good ratings for crash tests, and handles and corners really nicely.

OOHH Good! We're looking at the car market as well. But I just want something small. It's SO not comfy driving a larger car around over here...traffics a nightmare and having something zippy that you can pull in and out of spaces is ideal. We have a larger car - an Audi A6, but now that Col is commuting over an hour to the new hospital it's just too hard either dropping him off, or letting him take the car and then trying to shop and battle public transport...so I'm looking at either a VW or a mini... But neither of those would do you Milly as they can't fit 3 seats across the back...I'm with Shel on the mazda - think they're pretty lush.. Jods EDD 11/06/04Hurry up and grow!!
