Does anyone know of any jewelers or beauticians that do ear piercing on bubs, I dont want any lectures on how its cruel or opinions just names of places please in Sydney.

Hi, I got my DD done when she was 3mths at the local chemist. I've also heard that some doctor's do them aswell.

I'm in Melbourne, but some friends of mine had their little girls' done at the local chemist. They had a specialist who pierced 0-5 y.o. ears.

Maybe ring your local (larger) chemists? This one was a Terry White Chemist.

Just curious...I was wondering how the healing process works after the piercing? If things like cot bumpers, cords near cots, and all manner of other things are considered unsafe, then what are the safety implications of having tiny bits of metal near their ear canals?

I assume they pierce with studs? So wouldn't bubby be pulling at her ears because they hurt? And when the pain disappears and is replaced by the healing itching, wouldn't bubby be rubbing her ears? I'd be worried that the butterfly clip at the back would come off and the stud end up inside the ear canal. And if you inserted sleepers instead, wouldn't they be even easier to come undone?

Please know that I'm not passing judgement on this issue, I'm just curious about the whole process. Could someone please explain this to me? I may want to get my baby's ears done, too, but the above scenarios are the things that stop me.

My oldest DD got hers done when she was little and it hurt whilst it happened and the nothing after that. She was a toddler and talking so bit different to getting a baby done.

Also when rining around ask if they have two guns, most people get two people to do both ears at the same time so bubs is only getting one "ouch" rather than two separate ones. Sometimes you get the first done and then bubs is too distraught for the 2nd.

Put her on your knees, get them to mark spots with marker and 1 2 3 go!!

As for looking after them, exactly as you would your own, from memory it only is a little tender for a day or two but a baby would more than likely still be sleeping on her back so its not an issue.

In regards to the butterfly clip falling off - have you tried removing them when they are new - it is near impossible so I doubt they would fall off, the earring is too big to go through to the ear canal. Once they are pierced and bubs is settled with you fingers just push gently on the back of the clip to ensure they are "clicked" in and you will be right.

Just make sure you use the spray on her ears to assist healing, prevent infection and twist them so the healing sking doesnt stick to the posts.

Just to answer TRIPTIC's question...

We got our DD's ear's pierced at 6 months, i wanted to do it earlier, but i was told they wouldn't do it before then where i live, ANYWAY...

DD cried for about a mintue after it was done, but i think it was only because the lady who was doing her right ear got her face with the side of the gun and cut it a bit, so i think that's what her her.

Also, DD still to this day has NOT touched her earings once, (she is 16 months old now) and we just cleaned it with ear solution for 6 weeks, and then i changed the studs to white gold sleepers that i got made for her. No infections or problems with them falling out. The piercing stud backs are quite hard to pull off, and the sleepers i got made are also hard to undo.
