Hi all, I'm 28 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I recently moved to Sydney, and haven't got a clue where to shop for baby things. I'm wanting to buy a stroller, portacot, baby bath, front pack, etc.

Ideally it would be great to find a big store that has lots of different products so that I can try them all out. On the other hand, I'm after bargains too, so if you know of some discount shops that would be great too. I've heard about "Babies Galore" but haven't visited yet.

I live in the inner west (Erskineville), but have a car.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Sarah.

Hi Sarah,

One of the cheapest baby stores in Sydney is Sydney's Baby Kingdom. There is one at Alexandria, Bankstown and Penrith. They have an internet site so you can look them up there. I find they are a lot cheaper than Babies Galore.

I also bought things such as a portacot and Angelcare monitor from Target when they are having a sale. You can save quite a bit of money when the sales are on.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Mel

I agree Sydney's Baby Kingdom is cheaper than Babies Galore and have a much larger range of products. Babyco is cheaper also but only have a limited range, mainly their own brands. Baby kingdom is worth trying first as their staff are very helpful which makes a big difference when you arn't sure what you are looking for etc. Ingrid

Another fan of Sydney's Baby Kingdom here! When you do a big shop, they give you a discount which applies forever which is great when you go back for odds and ends.

Sydney Baby Kingdom is at Alexandria on Botany road and I got EVERYTHING there, the staff knew me original.gif

Get on their reward program and you will get another 10% off on top of their great prices!

Thanks everyone for your advice. Sounds like Baby Kingdom is the best place to go! Being a new mother faced with all the stuff you need to buy is very overwhelming - your opinions are very much appreciated, thank you.

Hi ladies, just wondering what sort of a discount you are talking about 10%, 20% ? Do they give the discount on all purchases or just big ones? And, do you need to bargain with them?

We want to get some Kingparrot furniture and were going to order from David Jones as they have 10% off at the moment on all Boori manufactured products. I asked in Babies Galore last weekend and one girl suggested they can negotiate about 10% off but then another said this was in gift vouchers for future purchases.

I actually prefer Babies Galore. I found the service there a lot better and friendlier. What we did was first go to Baby Kingdom to check out the prices. it's better to buy everything you need in one go as they will do you a package deal (approx 10 - 15% off the RRP). We then went to Babies Galore and asked if they could do the same deal and they did! They gave us between 10 -15% off their RRP and we bought everything at Babies Galore. Eventhough some of their RRP is a little higher than Baby Kingdom, I purchased from them as I found the sales people a lot more helpful and generally gave good advise. BTW, Babies Galore in Castle Hill sells factory seconds mainly Boori and Kingparrot upstairs their store and they are discounted by around 25% off the RRP. Great value when sometimes it only a tiny scratch which you can fix up by polishing it on your own. Not sure if other Babies Galore sells factory seconds...... you could ring up and check.

Thanks for the hint about Castle Hill original.gif . We'll eb doing a bit of driving around between the different stores on Saturday I think. Getting 10-15% off a bugaboo would be a great savings.
