Hills Play Gyms and Slides

Date: 11/05/2007

Supplier Name: Hills Industries Limited

Product Info: The product recall applies only to Hills Play gyms and slides sold between 1 December 2005 and 10 May 2007. The products have distinctive dark blue steel frames, and bright green plastic components. The bright green plastic components are embossed with a Hills logo and "Replace By" date markings between Oct 2009 and Dec 2010. The products were made available for sale through various retailers.

Defect Details: The plastic components of the affected products do not have adequate UV stabilisation and are suffering premature fading and minor surface cracking. The plastic components will therefore not have the lifespan prior to replacement that they otherwise should have. Deterioration due to UV exposure is likely to result in a significant number of cracking failures of the plastic components over the next 12 months.

Consumer action: Consumers are advised to cease using the affected products and contact Hills Industries Limited on 1300 734 323 or via the website www.hills.com.au to organise for a replacement set of plastic components to be sent to them at Hills' expense.

Hills are pretty good with this. Ours was cracking about 8 weeks ago. We had only had it up for about 5 weeks. I called them right away and they sent a replacement part. It took about 5 weeks to get the part. This was before the recall came out so we must of been some of the reason for the recall. There must have been a few other people with the same problem unsure.gif .

Edited because I just checked the replacement part they sent us and it is of the same date that is up for recall Oct 2009 rant.gif . NOw I have to contact them again and wait 5 weeks for another part rant.gif .

A minimum 8 weeks for replacements. How do I explain to DS he can't use his swings for 8 weeks? unsure.gif

I have just sent mine in. I am going to still let the girls play on their swings but will moniter it for any sort of cracks. I will take a photo of the slide and post it here for everyone to see why the recall is happening. The cracks are very noticable.

Edited to add the photos:

Wendy, ours went up at the end of Jan and the cracks happened by about feb. Im glad I am getting newer parts which shouldnt have that happen again. Does your slide have the cracks as well?

I also checked my swings and they have sun fading which is noticable. I understand that we will get more then normal sun fading living in alice springs but our swings are under a sun shade.

Ours also falls into the recall and we have had no problems with it.

From what I have read on the recall website that some could crack within 12mths of owning it.

They are very good at getting their replacements out - So even though they are quoting 6 weeks it may be less.

As for not playing on it. We will still use ours as it doesnt appear to have any cracks and there is no way I can explain to a 3year old that he cant use it because of a recall.

Just about everything we have bought in the last 12mths has been recalled sad.gif
