We went last year when Seth was just 6 weeks old. We had heard a lot of negative comments about Bali and arrived there worried about pick pockets, bombs, bali belly and scammers.

By day 2 I felt safer there than I did in Australia ohmy.gif. The people are so friendly and the entire trip went without the slightest hiccup. Not one of us even got sick.

I kind of wish we where going back there instead of New Zealand later this year, but we always said we'd finish off the South Island (haven't even started on the north yet)

The thing I liked about it was it was a completely different culture but not too far away. I've found with young kids we are really limited to 5-8 days travel time because it does get too much for them. Having to spend 12+ hours there and back with for an 8 day holiday isn't worth it. Bali (from Melbourne) was 6 hours there and 5 hours back.

I really want to go to Thailand also. Never been there, so can't compare them.

We were over there when it was classified by the aus embassy as unsafe, we never knew a thing until we got back to Aus, noone cared, life went on as normal. I think at the moment you would have more chance to be hit by a car.
Just have a great time!! biggrin.gif

Is tickerless
The DFAT travel warning is still set at 'reconsider your need to travel'.

I was there 2 years ago and felt safe - we stayed away from the main tourist areas as they didn't interest me anyway.

My parents are there at the moment having a ball.

It is SO cheap, both times I have been I have come back with money leftover!

Ta Da!
I have just come back from Bali - my first overseas trip - and i had a fantastic time.
We had no problems what-so-ever and would go back at the drop of a hat.
I also felt very safe, even at night, just walking around. We did all of the tourist things too with no problems and we also can back with bulgin suitcases and leftover money!
It was a great holiday and i cant wait to go back!
