We wanted to get a deep freeze but decided an upright freezer was a better option than a chest freezer (we tend to leave junk on flat surfaces in this house and a chest freezer will just attract more junk on top!).
Our fridge is now packing in so I thought a side by side fridge freezer would be a good option but cannot seem to find any? There's the old fashioned "pigeon pairs" - a matching fridge and freezer but they are 2 separate units. Anyone know if side-by-side fridge/freezers still exist? Can anyone recommend a good brand? We need decent freezer space for when we bulk buy meat etc. Thanks Zajama |

We bought ours about 12-18 months ago.. Theyd efintally do exist.
We got the BOSCH brand and it is awesome!! Very quiet, and beeps when the doors are left open this is the one we have.. http://www.boschappliances.com.au/content....category_id=391 We played all the nig retailers off against each other, where i live they are all near each other , so was just a matter of walking accross the road, we ended up getting it for about $500 less than RRP |

When we were fridge shopping a few months back there were some/quite a few at the retravision, harvey norman type stores (Kleenmaid had one, but seemed rather $$).
But when you look beware that some are awkward to fit big items in... my brother can't buy frozen pizza's as they just won't fit in any direction. Something else too he has is a drama, can't recall now. So think about what you usually freeze and check the layout would work for you. The pigeon pairs seemed a rarity in our experience, only F&P had one when we looked. There was a very trendy double fridge that had four doors, but the top two opened to one huge fridge space and the bottom two into a huge freezer. Great, but cost the price of 4 fridges, ROFL. Let alone running costs with kids (or DH) opening all doors whilst deciding/looking for what they want. Jennyh |

Thanks everyone. I realised that the two electrical stores I went to (inside a shopping centre) had very limited range and now I have been to Good Guys and Harvey Norman I feel a bit silly seeing as there is a whole SECTION dedicated to the side by sides!
We have narrowed it down to Samsung and Bosch (both without the ice makers which seemed like an expensive addition that we wouldn't use). I HATE wire baskets in the freezer so that eliminated a nice looking Westinghouse. I love the Bosch brand and we have a fantastic Bosch dishwasher but the sales guy at HN told me the Bosch fridges are made by Daewoo and just badged as Bosch whereas the dishwashers are made in Germany by Bosch so there is a real difference in quality. Not sure how true this is. I guess after sales service is just as important and the quality of the product. Has anyone had experience with either of these companies after sale? Thanks also for your input, JennyH. I am taking a dinner plate in today to have a play around with the width. It would be frustrating if someone brought a dessert (or pizza) over and we couldn't fit it in the fridge or freezer!! Appreciate all your replies. |

I would strongly suggest checking the reviews for your brand choice on websites like this one http://www.productreview.com.au/category.php?cat_id=1044 and others.
I was set on a samsung too but decided against based on feedback on these websites. Each to their own, but please research thoroughly before choosing. P>s I can get a frozen pizza box in my freezer (Simpson) no problems. |
