Hi
Have been told there are lice around at DD2's daycare. I cant see any on my girls yet (although not quite sure what to look for) but am wondering if they get them what can I use- DD1 has very sensitive skin, avoid salicylates, colours, preservatives etc. Is there any commercial product you can buy that doesn't have a strong smell? Or any other remedies? Have heard of slathering the hair with conditioner then combing but I dont use conditioner on her, only a mild shampoo when washing her hair-anything else I can use? Itching myself as I type....eewww |

I never use treatments, I always use conditioner and a comb. I buy the big bottles of conditioner for about $10 and I used to use the cheap plastic combs but ended up getting a better one for about $20.
I never knew what to look for either but do now! If you are worried - check at the nape of the neck and behind the ears for little black dots stuck on the hair follicles close to the scalp. I wouldn't do the conditioner thing unless you find something. We have notes come home nearly every week from school and my dd has had them three times in three years of school. Each time we have gotten rid of them within the week with the conditioner. The conditioner works by smothering the lice and they can't move or run from you while you comb out. You need to comb out in small sections. I do it every 2-3 days for a week. Sometimes you need to use your fingernails to get the eggs off the hair shaft. I personally believe that some children are susceptible and some aren't. When our dd has them, our other kids don't get them. No one else in the family has ever had them. I itch just thinking about it too. Good luck! |

I use coconut oil to treat my kids hair. Much nicer than all those horrible chemicals.
