Hi girls,

I am about to have my third m/c and would be very grateful for some advice.

With my first two pg's, I started bleeding before I realised there was anything wrong (I was 5 1/2 weeks the first time, and 4 1/2 weeks the second time). Both m/c's were without any complications - i.e. I didn't need to have a d&c.

This time I had a call from my Dr yesterday to say my HCG levels had only gone from 38 to 55 (in 4 days), and my progresterone had dropped from 60 to 30. She said that m/c was inevitable.

I've been having reasonably bad cramping since yesterday morning, but no bleeding.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, how long did you have to wait after cramping began before the miscarriage "started".

I rang the nurse before, and she said it was "just a matter of learning pain management". I am not worried about the pain though, I just want it to be over with!!

Thanks so much for listening. I would appreciate any advice.

Take care,
Megan

Hi Megan,

I can't offer much advice, since my recent miscarriage sort of happened before I knew what was going on. But I wanted to offer hugs and sympathy.

It is a hard time. I was lucky enough to spend 2 days in hospital being monitored and cared for, it was great and nicer than having to just go about normal stuff waiting at home or at work.

Oh Megan, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through, you poor girl. With my m/c I didn't have anything at all, no pain, no bleeding so it was such a shock and so hard to wait for the d&c to be over with cause I felt like there was nothing wrong with me. I still felt pg. I just don't understand why us women have to be put through this once, let alone 2 or 3 or 4 times over again. Like I have read in another post somewhere, 'They were too beautiful for earth'.

I am so sorry once again & I am sorry I can't offer any advice except take care of yourself, take all the time you need to deal with your pain and loss.

BIG, BIG hugs TO YOU AND YOUR DH.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are.

Take care,
Nkaa...

Megan, I'm sorry I cannot offer you much advice. I too am waiting to miscarry, after finding the baby no longer had a heartbeat. My dr told me that as I haven't had any spotting as yet, my body may just reabsorb it, and then I would get a slightly heavier period in up to 4 weeks time. I haven't had real cramps though, just twinges off and on for the last few days. I can certainly relate to you wanting it over and done with! I cannot believe that nurse's comment.
Were you offered the option of having a d & c?
I'm sorry this isn't really helpful. I just hope that everything sorts it out soon. If things get really bad and you are not coping, maybe you could go to the emergency ward of the hospital. They should be more sympathetic then your dr/nurse seems to be. Although sometimes it is better to be in your own home.
I am so sorry. Take care of yourself.

Thank you all so, so, much for your advice and kind words. It makes a really difficult time a little bit easier to know there are such nice people out there who care.

I haven't been offered a D&C but have a Dr's appointment already made for Monday morning. If nothing happens before then, I will insist on having a d&c if possible, just so it's over and done with and I can get on with life again.

PS Hi Nkaa - it's nice to see you around again :-) I've been thinking about you lately wondering how you are going. The Dr advised me if I have another m/c they will run tests, but I honestly don't believe I can go through it a 4th time. Certainly not for a while anyway...

Thanks again ladies.

hugs to everyone,
Megan

Hi Megan,
sorry to hear the sad news i have experianced 6 of my own i had cramps and stabbing pains and showed a pinkish discharge after those signs it did'nt take long afterwards but with my others i had no pain just bleeding sometimes you can be lucky though and still keep it by resting with your feet up unless the baby has already passed away with no vital signs of life.

this is my second baby on the way and the doctors said i was having a threatening misscarridge but all is well and fine just had to get lots of rest so sometimes you can be lucky, have they told you that you have misscarried or are there any signs? because sometimes cramping just comes with being pg

Hi everyone,

I can't believe I am able to say this - but I received some good news today. It seems my pregnancy is going ahead!!! :-) :-) :-)

On Wednesday my HCG was 56, and my Progresterone was 32. The HCG hadn't even doubled in 4 days, and the Progsterone had halved. The doctor said I would have a miscarriage over the next few days.

Although I had mild cramping, I didn't have any bleeding, so I went back to the doctor this morning for a referral for a D&C. She was going to arrange for it to be done tomorrow, but wanted a blood test just to check the levels were still falling.

She called me back this afternoon to say they are all rising!!!!! My HCG is now 600, and my Progsterone is 39. Now I've just got to wait until next week to see if they can pick up a heartbeat. I know it doesn't mean that everything will be fine, but at least it's not over yet!!!

Keeping all my fingers crossed.

hugs to everyone,

I have just had my 2nd miscarriage and like you, the first started with the bleeding and the cramping.. Very different to this miscarriage.

The indicator was also the HCG for me.

The doctor didn't do a progesterone blood test on me.. which I am upset about.. considering that is why I think I am miscarrying.

The doctor told me that the bleeding would likely start after the HCG dropped below 20.

And it did. It lasted about 12 days and was much like a heavy period. [I was only 4.5 weeks] I did not pass a sac or any tissue that resembled a sac.. [I did with the first miscarriage, even though I needed a D&C] But that is supposedly normal. It can be absorbed evidently.

My 1st miscarriage was incomplete and needed a D & C. This was different and If you can have a 'preference' for which sort of miscarriage you have.. I would say the least traumatic was the m/c that didn't need a D&C.

Hope I helped. This is the most awful time for you. It will slowly get a little better. M/C is not like chicken pox though.. you don;t get over it.. it just gets easier to cope with.

So Happy that your pregnancy seems ok!

I would be asking why the hell the labs got it wrong and scared you so much!

That type of stress could cause a miscarriage!

All the best hon.
Hope it is an uneventful 9 months!
