I have a big trip planned next week and would like to take a few new books for the long journey.

Just to give you an idea, these are the books that my 20th old loves;

Papa's little penguin - Anna Pignataro
Who sank the boat - Pam Allen?
I went walking - Sue Williams
Sometimes I like to curl up in a ball - Vicki Churchill
Guess how much I love you, plus the seasons books
Sidney the little blue elephant
Hungry Caterpillar
Snug as a hug
Dig dig digging
Where is the green sheep
We're going on a bear hunt

Not so popular loans from the library;

Click clack 123?
Each pear plum (again ? not sure if this is the title)
Goodnight me
One about a cow called pamela who eats pears
The other Wombat books by Vicki Churchill
Other books by Pam Allen

What seems to tick the boxes are pictures with lots of animals or insects to spot. Generally a sentence or so per page is a good length too.

So what are good books that hit the spot for your little one?

My almost 18 month old loves all those picture books with big picures of animals, cars, people.

Our absolute favorites here at the moment are Monkey and Me by Emily Gravett, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes By Mem Fox and Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. Hope this helps enjoy your trip.

My DS has loved The Wheels on the Bus book - the version illustrated by Mandy Foot.

See it here:

http://thereadingstack.blogspot.com/2009/1...els-on-bus.html

It is an Aussie version illustrated with the most beautiful, funny pictures.

Ours is literally falling apart from the love, am trying to figure out how to re-bind it because it is so well-loved in our house! wub.gif

You already have most of my kids favourites on your list there.

Why not try some of the books from Lucy Cousins. My daughter has Maisy goes to hospital and Za Zas baby brother.

Olga the Brolga by Rod Clement not just one line per page though but nice pictures.

Bird by Annette Lodge. I got given this book for free with another purchase and its lovely. Nice pictures and a great little story. Some pages are a bit more than one line though.

Silly Galah by Janeen Brian and Cheryl Johns is a nice read and you can make all the animal sounds to to make it even more fun.

Ella Kazoo will not brush her hair. Got this one for my daughter and it always get a laugh especially as she gets more and more stuff stuck in her wild hair.

Toffee in trouble by Sally chambers. Nice read about a cat that gets up to mischief whilst everyone sleeps.

Where the wild things are by Maurice Sendak is a nice book.

Boo to a goose by Mem Fox

and last but not least is Baby Owls. Sorry dont know who wrote it as I cant find it at the moment but my kids love it and I substitute there names for the names of the baby owls.

Spot Lift-the-flap (Australia Post has book packs of 2)
Dear Zoo/Dear Santa

My kids love the Lift-the-flap & books that have different textures.

My 16m DS looooooves

The Waterhole -a counting book (it is full of animals and also has the cut out of the water if you get it in the hard page series

Dinosaurs love underpants - DS looooves this book - we have about 3 copies of it (both picture and hard parge versions). has a couple of lines per page but the rythm of the story is awesome!

we also have snug as a bug - an australian lullaby. DS didnt love it initially but i found the more you read it together the more they become familiar to them.

also little books i find he really likes (you know the little cardboard books).

Have fun!! I love buying books for my DS - he loves to sit and just have a "read" by himself as well!
