Hi waves.gif

Welcome to all the newbies original.gif

I have been up and down with my recovery it is nearly a year ago. I had more surgery to repair my vaginal cuff and to remove some adhesions. Emotionally it has been a rollercoaster and I have put on weight which I am not happy about. Physically it was the best decision I ever made the hysterectomy has elimated the agonising pain and heavy periods I used to have. I get pain still but no where near the pain I used to get. I get tired alot of late but I think that is due to the weight I have put on sad.gif

I hope everyone else is doing well and that we can keep this thread going with support and advice.

Cath

Hi I am nearly 9 weeks post surgery and feel great. I recovered a lot better than I thought I would and have found it easier than the 4 ceaser births that I had. I am feeling the best that I have for a long time.
I am starting a course tomorrow and then hope to get back into the workforce, because of my health I gave up work nearly 2 years ago, so really getting back on the track of living lol.

Hi,
Time for me to join this buddy group. Am having a hysto on 16 Nov. Years of issues from AF and 6 caesars have led me in this direction. Really hoping it will solve issues.
For those that have had one and recovered, has it helped.

Hi ladies, I'm 11 months down the track from a complete abdominal hysterectomy plus bowel and bladder repair due to adhesions. I have a huge vertical scar frok my belly button down. For me the recovery was slow, definately worse than my c/s even though one was a classical and one my uterus ruptured.

My recovery has also been slowed down due to other medical issues (I have a back injury) but I can honestle say this was absolutely the best decision for me. The bleeding/hemorrhaging and pain are gone and my bladder and bowel problems have lessoned.

I am on hrt now as the menopause issues were doing my head in. things are alot better with the hrt, but I still get some night sweats.

More than happy to answer any questions from those waiting, best to alert me via pm that there is a question though original.gif

All the best

Mum to 4 gorgeous children and proud loser of 22kgs
Just wondering how long you stayed in hospital once you had your hysterectomy? Did you find you could drive before the 6 weeks or beforehand?

TIA.

Hi Sandy,
I have read your journey during my time on EB and I am amazed at what we are able to cope with. You are inpsirational.
My last caesar was vertical due to adhesions and the doc will be taking the uterus through the same cut. I will be keeping my ovaries.
He has done all my surgeries except one, so knows my insides well. I am aware of complications esp with adhesions, my bladder and uterus are joined.
I am expecting to be in hosp for 5 days and will be going home to rest as much as I can, my mum will be staying for as long as we need her.
jeni, I'm glad you have come through this so well, you sound very positive.
I guess I don't really have ?'s but support would be great.
ATM I am in bed recovering from a broken foot and sprained ankle. I fell down stairs. I'm hoping it has recovered by the time I have surgery. Between AF, the flu and broken bones I have spent nearly the last month in bed.
Jen1, I drove post caesar in the 2-3 week mark. But everyone recoveres differntly. If it doesn't feel right, then don't do it.

How grand it must be, to be the chosen one...
Hi all, waves.gif

I actually had my hysterectomy nearly 3 years ago and had a great recovery.

My question is a bit strange: Since the doctor left my ovaries, I presume I am still ovulating, but I don't know when. Is it worth getting those OPK's that the ladies TTC use to try and see what is going on? I guess I don't really need to know at the moment, but keeping a record might be handy for menopause-type symptoms down the track? Or I guess it could be a way of tracking mood swings/PMS?

Sorry, I am a bit confused!

You could map out your mood swings and see if they fit what your cycle should be. I have read that leaving ovaries can lead to an earlier menopause.
Even though my tubes are tied atm I still have ovulation pain. I expect I'll still have that after the hysto.

Thanks cath4kids for your reply, I had heard that about early menopause. Since my mum didn't start menopause until her mid 50's, maybe early wont be as early as I think. I might try tracking my moods (although DH says I am pretty moody at the best of times so that might be interesting!)
