After watching both Ellie and Dani break down in tears, I'm starting to see a pattern of the 'pretty' girls playing cutesy and then breaking down when they get bad feedback. You don't see Mat getting poor feedback, breaking down and getting cuddles off George and Gary.. They obviously don't have the skills required for the show.

I'm a bit disappointed in most of the contestants this season, it just isn't doing it for me sad.gif

What a great episode! A fantastic challenge which really showed who was lacking what skills (seriously, a batter - not that difficult and something I would assume a chef comp contestant would've brushed up on! A basic cake mix - surely not hard to have rough ratios stored in your head?), and also showcasing the skills of some, so far, underrated or undershown cooks.

I was also in stitches throughout:

Gary to Ellie: 'Hmmm, that's strangely unpleasant' *screwed up nose* *grossed out giggle*

George: 'I don't want to hug you Gary:

But George: 'Sometimes you need to taste your own food . . .'
WTF?!?! Sometimes? Surely as a cook/chef you taste your food at varying intervals during the cooking process to make sure you have the flavours right? Even for a tried and tested, oft cooked dish you'd still taste at some point?!
When she did taste it, she was able to identify exactly what was wrong with it, in every way. Why wouldn't you do this as you're cooking to avoid such embarrassment?!?! She seems talented in that respect, and could potentially be a good chef because of it.

And finally:

The challenge was that they had to pick a pair of 'core ingredients' which were: oranges and sherry, lamb and anchovies, or chorizo and squid. Then they were allowed to get a basketful of ingredients from the pantry. The twist was that once they got back to their stations, Gary and George swapped all the baskets around! So they had to cook with another contestant's basket & core ingredients. Pretty tough challenge I thought.

I literally laughed out loud when Gary was judging Jay's dish. ".... You need to work on your basics. Your cream and chocolate were nice, but then my 9 year old daughter can do that".

GOLD

Agree with PPs re the girls crying, aaarrrggghhh. Boo hoo - get over yourselves, if you can't stand the heat and all that ........

Living as expat again!
I vote for Ellie or Dani for tonight's elimination.

I think Kumar will be the next person to go, I'm sorry but I don't think he can cook. The guy doesn't know the basic ingredients for massaman curry!
Even I who have no clue about cooking know!

1. I'm not sure I like the judges.

2. I think there are only a handful of cooks that can cook amongst the contestants.

3. Im sick of the product placement.
