I had my DD2 last week at 35+4. no one has explained anything to me really. How does the corrected/adjusted age thing work?

Think it is/was 1 year for every 4wks? So you'd correct up to 1yr of age.

I'm not sure about the cut off although I am sure some of the other ladies woudl know. My son was born at almost 32 weeks. So until he was two years old, when talking about milestones, they'd put him at 8-9 weeks younger than his gestational age. So say, if a bub is 'supposed' to do something at 8 weeks, they'd look to see that ds was doing it by 8+8weeks = 16 weeks of age.

It essentially 'bought' him a bit more time to do things!

Although I thought the cut off for doing this was around your babies age and after that they don't do it...so given yuor daughter was almost 'full term' (36+ weeks) they may not correct her age. Not sure though - your paed shoudl be able to tell you how they will apprach your little one.

Hi ds was 35 + 6 and by the 6 week check the pead said not to worry about corrected age. I only say something when some people would comment on him being small.

I never corrected with my 36 weeker. He was only 4 pds but developmently never behind at all.....even with poor genetics in the gross motor skills department (from me)!

Actually - physically he has always been ahead of my full termer - who makes up for his lack of skill with kamikaziness!

It basically means their gestation, if they were born at 40 weeks.

My DD was 34+4 when born. I was told at her 6 week checkup by the paediatrician that I did not need to adjust her age.

I had my DD at 26+0 weeks (830 grams) and although the hospital oversee her for 8 years (micro prem = <28wks or <1500gm) I got bored after about 18 months. She clearly needed that 14 week buffer to give her time to develop her skills but certainly wasn't doing it after 2yrs old.

As your DD is only slightly pre-term I don't think much correcting of age will happen...she was a good birthweight so sure she'll go great guns!

My baby was 36+2, and the MCHN keep banging on about his corrected age, so developmentally a month less then his actual age. He's mostly doing stuff for his actual age, but some of his gross motor is a bit slower, but I think that's because he was so small when he was born (IUGR)

MCHN went to adjust DD for 'corrected' age (36w3d) until I pointed out her brothers at 37w5d were not adjusted and were only a few days older so I was not going to correct for DD.
