This was a brilliant program. Haven't seen it for a few years, but would happily watch it again. The makers did a great job in that, just like in real life, sometimes the truth just cannot be proved one way or the other. Yep. I didn't know what to believe. What other evidence has come to light since the doco to make people more convinced of his guilt? |

QUOTE This is an interesting website which discusses other possible evidence and his appeal for a new trial in 2007. |

It was my feeling that he was guilty but if I was on a jury I would have found him 'not guilty' because it was not beyond reasonable doubt. It was just my feeling. He was somewhat creepy but he can't be convicted on that.

IMHO I think there was quite an amount of evidence for the jury. Read Kathleen's autopsy report http://www.peterson-staircase.com/reports.html Did you think it was beyond reasonable doubt though? I would have found it very distressing to be on that jury. Horrible. |

QUOTE Did you think it was beyond reasonable doubt though? Hmmm yes I do think so. The German connection and her death that was so similar, I think he's a psychopath and a very clever one at that! |

I only just finished watching this.
I then obviously googled to do some reading. The Wiki page mentions the owl theory. TBH I think there is some merit in it. If you look at the drawing of the wounds there are some marks that look like a claw. Also it explains why Kathleen had no trauma apart from lacerations to her skull. Interestingly, there were feathers and tree bits found in her dead fist. But my thoughts on the doco is it is extremely biased. We do NOT get given the amount of evidence that was put on trial.I felt like even though there may have been reasonable doubt, there was no way as a viewer I could know that for sure as I had not been given all the relevant info. I thought that the motive given by the prosecutors was very slim. The bisexual thing should not have been allowed in court IMO as it added nothing but a very slim made up motive. So what if he watched porn or thought about having sex with men? I think the fact the woman prosocutor got all disgusted about the porn was quite funny. Not because I like hardcore porn but looking at porn does not mean anything in this case to do with murder. I do think that the defence was right to say that the fact people could not discuss negative aspects about their relationship speaks volume. That Peterson was not prone to aggression or anything like that. I also think there is some merit in discussing the fact that Peterson had probably said things in his writing to p*ss off the powerful in community. After all he did run for mayor or senate or something. He may have been dealt with differently. I also wonder about the legitimacy of the German case being involved. I find it weird that they think he would plan to murder his wife on a staircase to mirror the original death of their friend. It's all a bit strange. Ultimately, I can only say I am no way sure if this guy did it or not. I could not convict as I think there are enough issues of doubt here. ETA: Interestingly, Deaver, the blood expert for the prosecution, has since been found to be a very shonky person and his evidence in this case had led to a suspension from duties. I thought the guy seem suss during the film. This post has been edited by Zombie Shakespeare: 26/09/2011, 01:50 PM |
