Yes they do. But as it has been so long since you last worked for them I doubt it would give you any additional edge in the interview process as everything has changed in that time.

You said no strings could secure you, at the station...
Delis are quite often after staff because it takes such a long time for a staff member to learn all the products and procedures, and also how to multitask (which seems to be fairly exclusive to that department)
Having said that, things have changed a LOT in the last 12 years. I would mention that you have had previous experience, but I don't know how much of an edge it will give you.
To answer your original question, I know quite a few people who have left for a year or two then come back when they found the grass wasn't actually greener. As long as they didn't leave the company on bad terms, there were no problems re-employing them.
If you are going to go for a job, apply now as the stores will be picking up staff for summer and the Christmas season soon (and you know how busy the service deli gets at Christmas!)
Good luck.

If there are no deli positions available at your store of choice you can always apply for a position in service or grocery and then transfer departments at a later date. At least you'd have a foot in the door again.

As a PP said the Christmas season is approaching so there will be new openings all the time. We've recently started accepting resumes again so I dare say other stores are doing similar.

I spoke to someone today that said they are recruiting staff...does that mean they are already contacting people for interviews...or does that mean they are checking the system ready to contact applicants...
TIA

Have you applied online?

If they said they are recruiting my guess is they have told the recruiting section how many people they want and for what role. From there they go through the applicants that requested that store when they applied and they send the details to the store who contact applicants. Well thats how it worked when I worked at Coles and hired staff.

If theres few applicants for that store they advertise it on their site not just go through the expressions of interest

They do re hire, I was out of Coles for 8 years and got a job with them again as did my partner who left 3 years ago, he has just got a job again with them.
