Hi
I am currently doing the specs for my new house and have been given two options for solar hot water. One is a gas boosted hot water system and the other is a 270L solar hot water with a gas booster. Can anyone tell me which would be the most effiecient? The person wasn't able to give me a lot of clear information TIA |

Gas boosted solar comes with a number of different pitfalls including the fact that not only will you need to find somewhere for a 270ltr tank but it will have a gas booted HWS on it (these look exactly like the instantaneous gas). You will also need to be mindful of the fact that solars need to have a TMV fitted and generally will never get to be as hot as some gas systems (might be a good thing but I love my hot water HOT!)
Generally costs of solar for water are slightly cheaper however you will need to work out the correct number of panels. Savings in gas/electrical bills can be overridden by the cost of maintenance of you solar panels. If you get a good gas unit these can generally be almost as efficient as a solar. Hope my ramblings help |

Thanks.
I must admit I am struggling with the idea of a 270L solar hot water service constantly being heated, being cheaper than an instananeous gas one. anyone one else with any advice? |
