Hi all

Last night DS had 2 spews.. about 30-40 mins apart, and say 30 mins after eating, and they looked like old blood fibre threads (TMI - Like the colour when your period is finishing) Not alot, but enough to worry me obviously.

Now before I started.. the first thing we did was call the hospital and went through to birth suite (the only number direct I had on me). The nurse advised that it sounded like normal baby tummy behaviour, but if we were worried or it continued with other symptoms, bring him in.

He is and has been happy, alert, good wees and daily poo, no sunken fontanel, no temp.

He has started on solids about 2-3 weeks ago and that consists of rice cereal with purees. None of the purees are dark.. talking carrots, sweet potato, avocado, pear, banana, apple etc. And nothing new introduced.

He is primarily breastfeed, but has had some formula top ups due to issues with my milk supply that past week and half. I dont have cracked nipples or anything like that.

It hasnt happened today but its still on my mind...

Has anyone had anything or seen anything like this?

Were they small fibres, like the kind that shows up in their poo after eating banana? (sorry TMI). Banana does some weird things once it's eaten, and it does certainly have those little fibres.

yeah the same kind.. and I wondered that as he had eaten earlier in the day some Raffertys Garden Organic Pear, Banana and Avocado puree.. but I thought because it was so pureed the banana fibres wouldnt have been it if that makes sense..

I hope that was it though!

Good point about the banana.
I was going to say that the Birth Suite staff would not be the ideal health professionals to discuss this with as it concerns an older baby (I understand you only had that number), there is a pinned topic in this forum that has contact numbers for 24 hour phone services in Australia where you can ask health related questions for all ages, or can you call you CHN or 24 hour CHN service to discuss the problem?

Thanks Lucky.. have popped some numbers in my phone.. here in QLD the 13 Health line seem to recommend going to the energency alot, but I didnt think it called for it last night due to him not being distressed in anyway.

Hasnt happened today so fingers crossed all OK.

well i might know what it was, and if it is, its all my fault

his spoon has i think cut the roof of his mouth.. i saw a bit of blood when feeding him today.. i dont ram it in, dont get me wrong! its not a metal spoon, its a tommee tippee one.. maybe its the angle im doing it or something?

he doesnt cry when hes eating.. he doesnt look uncomfortable or anything..

still, i feel like crap now

You may not have done it at all, or should I say the spoon may not have done it. I still reckon if he has a cut or any sort of wound on his hard palate you stlll could get it checked out but your GP.
I'm always on the "better to be safe then sorry" side of things though.
