My DDs first day of school is Tuesday and it's just occurred to me that I have no idea what to put in her bag.

We've not been given a list of books or pencils yet so does that mean I don't need to send in a pencil case/paper for the first day?

A paint smock was part of the uniform - do I pack that?

I know it's not really going to matter much, but don't want her starting out on the wrong foot.

What would you pack?

I had this problem last year. I called up the school a few days before the first day and asked. I was told that the school provided 'book packs' for the children and the only thing I needed to send in was the art smock. We paid for the packs in the first set of school fees.

If you are worried about it just call the school on Monday. Since they haven't told you anything to date, I imagine it would be the same deal - they provide everything and you pay for it later in the term. original.gif I hope your DD enjoys herself!

I was the same last year when DD went to Prep. We packed her school hat, lunch box/drink bottle & her asthma pump in her bag. The school sent a note home on the first day asking us to supply a spaghetti type tin to sit on her table for penicls etc. by the end of the week. Then she would bring home her reader bag which we sent back and forth every day.

ETA - a library bag & art smock.

Ours get a stationary/book pack on the first day that we pay for later.

We also have a list of things to pack on the first day:

- labelled lunch box, with morning fruit, recess and lunch packed separately
- a drink bottle
- a rain jacket and jumper
- a spare pair of underpants and clothes in a plastic bag (apparently accidents are common in the first weeks even for children who have been toilet trained for ages)
- hankerchief or tissues
- a painting smock (old t-shirt)
- a library bag

There was no mention of sunscreen so I'm wondering if the children are encouraged to reapply sunscreen later in the day or not huh.gif

Our letter said to pack a spare pair of knickers, bottle of water, lunch, morning tea and something for fruit break. They get their hat given to them on the first day.

I'm sending an entire change of clothes just in case but otherwise, just DD1's lunchbox and water bottle.

I keep forgetting to get her a paint smock. Where can you get nice ones?
