Just wondering if school camps are compulsary to attend?

I am worried to be honest because this is a new school and camp is coming up. All the other kids know each other really well and I am concerned because my child doesn't know anyone that well yet. I see kids in their groups and I don't want my child to feel left out from the group.
It just seems so soon and all of a sudden. We are just settling in to the new environment as it is

I was put in the same situation when I was at school. I was brand new and didn't know anyone. The school decided to place me in a room with a spare spot. I was not comfortable AT ALL. I didn't know any of the girls and just 'throwing me in there' would not have automatically resulted in 'bonding'. At the last minute I pulled out of it and stayed at home for the week. My parents were 100% OK with my choice and the school allowed it.

In the end, in my own time, I did make friends but not with the people I was meant to be roomed with (they were so NOT my type).

Please don't pressure your child to attend. It would have done me more harm than good.
