Our DD started Prep last year (Year before FYOS in NSW) at a Private k-Yr 12 Christian College, our reasons were the Local Public Primary School can only be described as a disgrace :-( it's over crowded, under resourced due to having so many kids, due to zoning there are a lot of kids I would prefer my kids didn't associate with, DD is very shy, so we thought having 7 Kindergarten classes would be very daunting for her, since we went to a very small Preschool.
Prep last year made the transition into Kindy so smooth for her, she and her friends just saw it as going back to School and couldn't understand the fuss. Their School is structured as Junior School Prep-Yr 4, Middle School Yr 5 - Yr 8 and Senior College is Yr 9 - Yr 12, this makes the transition so smooth also into High School that a lot of kids don't even realise they are in High School, due to the structuring we would not have considered sending our kids midway through their Schooling. We did consider the local Catholic School which had a slightly better reputation than the Public School but so many parents were pulling their kids from the Public system and sending them there it's also become quite large, I like that we are not faced with the task of looking for a decent High School now, our School is small and they achieve great results. |
