can't think of movies, but a really excellent doco is Paradise Lost (and Paradise Lost 2) which is the story of the West Memphis Three. such a gross miscarriage of justice, it made me angry and sad and flabbergasted in equal measure. well worth watching

Save me Barry!
Fight Club - was just all round awesomeness

and, also by David Fincher,

The Social network - I went into this very reluctantly and couldn't believe at the end that 2 hours had just zipped by

I was also going to suggest Memento. I enjoyed Shutter Island as well.

Mullholland Drive blew my mind but it is very strange and leaves you with a lot of questions. Requiem for a Dream is another that blew my mind years ago...I don't think I could sit through it again though. These two aren't necessarily brilliant movies per se, but they did leave an impact on me.
