My son decided he wanted to go on a boys ski trip (with dad), staying overnight and doing a ski lesson for his bday (which falls in July), rather than a big friend party. I dont know why but I feel bad, as 5th birthday is meant to be 'the big one' LOL I'm being silly arn't I?? I am thinking of suggesting he chooses a couple of friends to take to the movies.Anyone else not had a big friend 5th?

What a load of rubbish. I have parties for my kids because they have an amazing time. It doesn't matter if they don't remember it when they're 20 or 30, it matters that they have a ball and feel special on their special day. rolleyes.gif

We can afford to do things that are special AND have a birthday party, so why be a scrooge about it.

What a load of rubbish. Kids can feel special on their birthdays without having a party. We can afford to do things that are special on their birthdays without having a birthday party and he has a lot more to show for it at the end. rolleyes.gif We buy him some extra toys and games that will last for years instead of just one day.

That's not what you said though. What you said was that there isn't any point because they won't remember their parties when they're older.

So what's it about? Scoring points when they're older or giving them a great life at the time. Our kids still get presents on their birthday so as well as the extra toys and games, they also get a great time with their friends, plus extra presents from their friends that they can last for ages so they have 'a lot more to show for it at the end' rolleyes.gif
