Hi ladies waves.gif

Firstly OMG Ellie, what a rough week!

Secondly, quick re-intro from me. I've only come in here a couple of times over the last few months. I suspect my 5th child (DS3, 2.5yo) lives on the ASD spectrum somewhere. I saw a paed about 6mnths ago who basically shrugged his shoulders and referred him to the Autism Clinic. He agreed that DS shows some of the signs, has definite sensory issues and definitely has a language delay, but wasn't sure he was "bad" enough.

Finally got into see the Clinic last week. I have another phone call with them this week, then a recommendation 2 weeks after that. They wouldn't give me any indication of what they were thinking, and it's driving me crazy! I just wish I knew what they were thinking, I have no idea.

Last night at a BBQ I said to a friend "I just don't know what I'm going to do if they tell me he's fine!", she raised one eyebrow, looked towards my son who was flapping around in circles on the floor in-between bursts of being a puppy dog and said "so you think that's normal?". Which is exactly my point: I know he's not "normal", what if the specialists can't see it? Then what? Pretend he is normal? Treat him like a normal 2yo boy?

To be honest, the quirkiness doesn't bother me, we can work around his little particularities. The sensory issues I also believe we can work with. What is starting to really concern me is the build up of anxiety, which shows as anger directed at me. And what really breaks my heart is him not being able to handle social situations. Used to be he'd stand and stare at kids in the playground. A couple of weeks ago he tried to play alongside them, but ended up freezing then breaking down completely. While in the waiting room at the Autism Clinic he was playing in a vacant play area....then a couple young children ran in and he ran out, crying for no reason at all.

Thanks for letting me offload!
