I bought a Topfield (TFR 7170) this week and I'm already getting annoyed with it. I was wondering if my main problem is something that can be fixed.

A lot of my recordings come up under the wrong title/name.
I'll be recording one show and if the one before that hasn't quite finished yet it'll name the recording after the show that I didn't actually want to record.
This means I'm forever looking through my recordings trying to find out which one is what.
Is there any way to fix this?

The other annoying thing is the fan which is too noisy.

I'm actually thinking about returning the Topfield and getting a Beyonwiz instead so I'd love to hear if the two problems are the same in a Beyonwiz or if that one does a better job.

Thanks

Hi there. I have a topfield PVR, i have not found the fan to be too noisy, but it is in a cabinet, not sure how much difference that would have made.
I have found that the name coming up as the saved name depends on how I set the program to record, if I use the built in guide and press record on each show in the list that I want to record, they generally are saved with the right name, but if I press the record button when on the channel, sometimes the name is not right. I am in the habit of always recording the following show as well, to make sure I dont miss an ending (shows have a terrible habit of running over now, don't you think?).
I hope that makes sense to you, lol.

I have not had any other PVR, so can't help you with comparing them, sorry.

I have recorded all my shows by selecting Intelligent Recording (Series Recording) through the EPG and I'd say at least 70% have the wrong name.

Did you get an Ice TV guide subscription with it? that's what we use with our Beyonwiz. Hubby(he's the techie one lol) has set it so it has a few minutes buffer on the front and a bit longer on the back of each show so we don't miss out if it starts a bit early or runs overtime.
You could do a search on Topfield problem to see if it's a common problem
We had a TF before the Wiz and it was great! Newer one wasn't as good for my husbands needs though, and the menu wasn't nearly as clear.

I have already changed the setting so I record an extra few min in front and 20min after a show but the naming problem stayed the same.

The loud fan seems to be a common problem sad.gif

I have a 2460 and an old 5000. No fan problem with the 2460.

I suspect your pre-padding may be the cause of the naming issue, but can't say for certain. I don't use pre-padding (15 mins post) and only have the naming issue if I manually start a recording before the end of the preceding program.

That said, I haven't used the IR function ( 2460 firmware has only recently been updated with this function, and I haven't updated yet. But, given that it searches on the program title in the EPG, the misnaming does seem overall odd. Unless the TV stations changed their EPG timing after the toppy has set its recording?

Anyway, why not head over to the itopfield.com.au forunms and ask, or search for the issue?

With my topfield I just name the program myself. When setting the reservation to record what I want. I just name it then.. so if I'm taping House and I program it to start recording 5 mins. early (so the other show title would automatically be inserted) I just put the House name in myself.

I have 2 Topfields - a TRF2400 and a 5000 Masterpiece and have never had a problem with the file name.
