I usually use 3 layers of pasta and use a 2.6L Pyrex dish which is approx 7.5cm high.

The one I made last night was:

a layer of pasta,
a layer of meat sauce,
a layer of bechamel sauce,
layer of pasta,
layer of meat sauce,
a layer of pasta
and then a final layer of bechamel sauce
top with chedder cheese

I also add a decent handful of cheddar cheese to the bechamel just cause its yummy and sprinkle the top with some paprika.

The dish I use is about 5-6 cm in height and quite wide.

Mines probably about the same as this. I did once make one in a loaf tin, just to see how it would turn out, it was good and about 6 layers.

I'm not a bad mum, I'm a good mum with low expectations
3 layers absolute minimum, but I prefer to use a really deep dish and do 5 or 6 layers if I can get away with it.
