Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Breville Fast Slow Cooker which sears, slow cooks and is a pressure cooker.

I really only bought it for the searing / slow cooking functions (I always sear meat before I slow cook and am lazy so dont want to wash up another pan) but now that Ive got this new toy, I am keen on playing with the pressure cooker.

What do you use your pressure cooker for? What is your favourite pressure cooker recipe?

According to the instructions, food is cooked 70% quicker.

So far Ive made...... vegetable soup - in 10 minutes.

TIA

Heston Blumenthal reckons chicken is better in a pressure cooker (can't remember the details, I think it was for a roast chook).

Mum used to use it a lot when we were kids for quick dinners. Can't remember what they were, I just remember being fascinated by the appliance we weren't allowed to touch lol.

I use my pressure cooker for boiling all my legumes ( beans, lentils, chickpeas etc), my veggies (the corn takes 6 min), my soups, potatoes... I am vegetarian and have also a Thermomix so can t really suggest recipes but this is my main use for it.

My Mum used hers to instil fear in her daughter....

I love everything to do with food and cooking but the sight of a pressure cooker brings me out in a cold, cold sweat!

LOL countrymel

They are a bit scary. My mum also used hers to scare me. She threw hers out a few years ago just so that we wouldnt ever use it. LOL. She used to boil it on the stove like a cauldron. Anyway this Breville one is much less scary and doesnt even make a mess, not even on the inside of the lid - which I dont even understand.

Beef casserole, lamb shanks, red cabbage....I basically do anything that you'd normally do in a slow cooker (I'm not organised enough to get things ready for a slow cooker). Just make sure you check the amount of liquid and how full it can be (mine recommends min 300ml liquid and no more than 2/3 full), this will depend on the size.

I had one many years ago, before kids and I was working full time.

It did a great casserole in a fraction of the time. Corned beef came out really good...and my all time fave, I did a heap of christmas puddings, old style type, boiled in calico etc, and an aunt of mine said tehy were as good, if not better, than the ones she had as a kid.

Lent it to my sister..who lent it to my mum..who gave it to my other sister....whos BF hocked it for drug money...and no one told me til I asked my sister for it coming up to christmas.

Bummer.

Oh, and I remember when we bought it, DH (then BF) was super keen, sayin gif we bought it, he would cook dinner more....and that NEVER happened....bahaha...but it was a good appliance

I'm definately keen to try a xmas pudding. I was going to make corn yesterday for the kids but there was too much chaos when I got home from the butchers. Also planning on making a pot roast and my regular beef casserole next week. OMG so so so excited.

Mutlitasking is not doing any of them properly
I bought one of those last winter LOL. I haven't used it as much as I intended to, but my DDs really like the paprika chicken recipe that's in the instruction book.

Report bad grammar and spelling ring 1800 bite me
I used mine for curries. The flavours really infuse into the meat/vegetables.

The new pressure cookers are a lot safer than the old ones with the valve on top. I was petrified of my old valve one. Always thought it might explode on me.
