3.5 weeks ago, my 13-month-old started day care. At the same time, I fell pregnant and my breastmilk pretty much disappeared. He caught a cold. It's been 3.5 weeks and he's pretty much plateaued -- clear copious snot, dry barking cough (croup?) and generally miserable. He doesn't have a temperature, but he's so congested that he wakes up a LOT at night to cough and often doesn't resettle on his own. When we go in to resettle him, he falls asleep sounding like a little piggy and then changes to mouth-breathing before he'll sleep on his own.

So, I know it's probably just a virus, but it's been 3.5 weeks and if he's getting better, it's veeeery slowly. Should he be swabbed for a culture, just in case?

We're using the steam vaporiser, nasal aspirator, nasal saline, etc.

Have you kept your son away from day care? Keep him home and given that it has been 3.5 weeks, you could go and see a Dr to get their opinion.

He's still been going to day care (one day a week) as they've been happy to have him (snot running clear) and I've needed the time for appointments (GP, psych, sonographer etc).

I've got an appointment for him for Wednesday afternoon. sad.gif
