We are about to renovate our house and are in a quandary over the bathtub. It never gets used, I think DS used it once after a cross country rum a year or two back.

At the moment the bathtub is downstairs, along with three bedrooms (the kids and a spare). We are reconfiguring upstairs so that the kids go up there as well as a spare room and our bedroom will be downstairs instead. We will have a new ensuite built for us in one of the bedrooms. Our old ensuite will be renovated for the kids and the guest room. The bathroom downstairs will rarely be used as it will only be our bedroom downstairs as well as a study.

The builder has suggested that we should put in a bath upstairs as the only bath and remove the bath downstairs to allow for a bigger laundry and just have a powder room plus shower downstairs. He said in all new builds the full bathroom would be upstairs. I don't disagree but am thinking if we ever sold (have absolutely no plans to), people with younger kids would prefer the bathtub downstairs. The room we are converting into a study could easily be used as a nursery/bedroom down the track for a younger family.

Where is your bathtub? Is it a pain being upstairs? Would you prefer it downstairs?

We have our bath upstairs in the main bathroom, all our bedrooms are upstairs as well. I think your builder is right, if you are putting the kids bedrooms upstairs I would put the the bath there too as they are more likely to use it.

We have 3 bedrooms + the family bathroom (inc. tub) upstairs. Downstairs are the kitchen and living areas, study and one toilet.

Whereever the kids bedrooms are so upstairs.

We have our bathtub upstairs, no dramas. It would drive me bonkers to bath a baby or toddler and then have to carry them upstairs to get dressed especially in winter.

We have two baths, both upstairs - one in the main bathroom and one in our ensuite. I would find it really weird to have a bath on a different floor to the bedrooms - in your case, unless it was in the ensuite off your bedroom, I would move it upstairs.

i prefer the kids bathroom to have the bathtub... so if the kids bedrooms are upstairs then the main bathroom with the tub would be upstairs too.

Our house has the kids rooms downstairs so the main bathroom is downstairs although we have a spa in our ensuite upstairs too. Niether bath is used often & were already here when we purchased the house.

The alternative would be to have a roman bath under the shower.

On a lighter note " a cross country rum" roll2.gif would make me need a bath too grin.gif

If you are going to do this, just make sure that one of the upstairs bedrooms can be used as a main. DH & I are not overly enthused about the idea of having to have our future children sleeping on a different floor to us from such a young age.

In answer to your question, in all the 2 story houses i have lived in, the bathtub has always been in the main bathroom upstairs.

I'm used to in multi-story houses the bathroom(s) with tub/shower/sink/toilet being upstairs and just a sink/toilet downstairs.

I'm not sure what the plus of it being downstairs would be? The only minus in my experience is as kids we once or twice flooded the tub and water came through the ceiling.

we have a 3 bed house. Kids upstairs. Bath downstairs. We bought the house renovated so had no say - I would prefer the bath upstairs 100%.
