Hi I'm hoping to get some ideas for redoing a bedroom. My daughters share a room and have IKEA Kura beds side by side. I wanted to make the beds more "girly" by putting some fabric over the bed panels so they aren't blue or white. I also wanted to put curtains around the bed to hide what's underneath. I need to put drapes/curtains in the room too as I can't reach the cord for the Roman blinds currently in the room. The beds have space under them for storage etc and I've got bright colored cushions on the floor and a pink round rug so it can be a reading nook and storage on the other side for toys etc. I've also got a pink, purple and lime green circle rug in between the beds. I like the bright colors but am now at a loss what type of fabric to use for the bed panels, curtains around bed and curtains in room. I'm hopeless at matching things and was hoping for some inspiration? The walls are being painted so please ignore the aqua on the walls at present. There is only two beds in the room - no other furniture to be added as there are built in wardrobes opposite the beds. I was thinking if I upload a few pictures someone can steer me in the right direction? Any help appreciated original.gif

I need help with:

What colour to paint the walls?

Should I put some wall stickers up - recommendations appreciated.

Should I leave walls blank and add a shelf instead of stickers?

What fabric for curtains? What fabric for bed panels and curtains around the bed? Should these all match or be different?

Excuse American spelling it keeps auto correcting sad.gif

OK I'm trying to work out how to upload photos!
Thanks again for anyone who takes time to help me out. Hubby is saying it will be another project I don't finish and I don't want to prove him right lol

Are you just going to glue/staple the fabric to the bed panels to cover it?

I might check out your options for cute bedlinen. Hopefully you'll find something with a bit of bright (bright green, bright pink) on more pale, which isn't all that hard to find in little girls' stuff. Then get the dust ruffle to hide the stuff under the bed, buy extra coordinating twin size sheets for harvesting fabric for the bed panels, and see if you can find a nice window valance that matches.

I wouldn't go batsh*t insane trying to match all the fabric everywhere but it would give you a starting point for colours? You can always have the bedlinen be mostly one pattern and the pillows and curtains and so on another.

If you stick with brights instead of pastels - and that can look nice - I would go up much lighter and also a little desaturated - greyer - for the walls. Bright purple bed linen - light silvery lilac walls. You do not have to paint the walls grape just because some pillows are.

Thank you I was going to do white on the walls but my husband doesn't think it will look good. I really like the bright Fredrika fabric from IKEA or the trees one in the same range but I don't know if it will clash too much. I saw a post on IKEA hacks where they glued fabric over the panels on the bed and was going to do something similar I just don't know what type of fabric!

I have a food blog.
My approach would be to find a patterned fabric that you adore and use it to inspire the rest of the room. It might be that you find an awesome bed spread or you find a great fabric for the curtains - whatever - use it as the jumping off point.

Once you've got the inspiration fabric you can pull all the other fabric and wall colours from it.

Another great trick with paint colour is if you decide you want to use a really bright colour from one of your fabrics on the wall, find the paint chip of that colour and go to the lightest shade on the paint chip. It will usually be the best colour for the wall - in the same family but not to bright and garish.

I just saw your post. Is this the fabric you mean?

It's nice, I really like it, plus it's a fantastic starting off point.

You could definitely go for that light pink on the walls, or even a really nice lightened up version of one of the blues or the purple.

Cobwebs are the new black!
Instead of doing fabric you could do what I did with an old wardrobe. I just used scrapbooking paper and glued it on then went over the top with a sealant:

Yes that's the exact fabric! I also love the trees one it says on the website it's also called Fredrika? I wanted to do drapes for the window in that and maybe a sheer organza as a curtain for under the bed iykwim? Would it be overkill to do the beds in that fabric too though?

Xena I like that idea! That would be so much easier than using fabric and cheaper too!

I like the idea of a soft lemon, soft pink or even soft lime green for the walls I just thought white would make it look nice and bright. But hubby thinks it will look unfinished. I've never decorated a house before let alone a room and don't want it to look tacky!
