...and I am in fourth place.
Feeling a bit more positive about life this evening. I'm quite excited about my gym appointment tomorrow evening, and I have support from DS's therapist and the scout leader to give it another go for DS. Do others find that it's easier to eat well when you're busy and happily occupied? I do, as long as there's something yummy that is quick to prepare or reheat. If I am busy but there's nothing delicious to lay my hands on quickly, I'm far more likely to grab any old thing and then regret it, or try to cobble together a healthy meal but fail and then feel unsatisfied and eat more later. |

Do others find that it's easier to eat well when you're busy and happily occupied? A thousand times yes! I find I am quite disinterested in food when I'm good-busy, ie. doing lots of tasks that I don't mind. Bad-busy, like when I'm panicked about assignments that are due, the complete opposite. I really hope that when I finish uni and start working, I'll be a lot more good-busy, and therefore less preoccupied with food. I don't doubt that working will be stressful too, but work-related stress doesn't seem to whip me into a food based frenzy the way that uni does. I think it's to do with my fear of failure, and need to be perfect, which uni seems to exacerbate. |

| Train your dog, it's worth it! | |
|
Hi ladies, I am fifth to check in!
Dogged, I'm glad the Scout Leader is offering support to you and your DS. Don't be afraid to keep plugging away in little steps. FWIW, I've had experience with a Joey Mob that had 4 out of 12 children on the spectrum. It was pretty hard work at first as the leaders had no experience with ASD, but we did get assistance from our training area (Region), who had some specialist (as in worked in the field in their day jobs) who came in and gave us some 'templates' on how we might manage this group. It flourished, and I still see these kids in Scouts from time to time. It just took patience and some steep learning curves for us leaders (I was the leader's leader, if that makes sense) to get us all there. Our first ever hike was memorable - but for all of the right reasons. Gym sounds promising, I'm sure you are going to love it - I'm booked in for a pre-pilates assessment. I have committed to starting Pilates once a week to build up those core muscles. I'd describe this as sneaking up on myself, as I cannot say I'm feeling particularly motivated. I try to have a supply of quick, healthy dinners for when I can't be bothered to do more cooking. WW Tuna Bake is my poison - as is soup at this time of year. Nothing so easy as nuking dinner in under 10 minutes. Luckily there isn't much choice out here - but sometimes there are DH prepared options, which are far more wonderful taste-wise, and usually far more calorific. Which is part of the reason I got to this weight in the first place. Irresistible. Bad man. He knows all of my weaknesses. However, after 21 years together, he did not know (until yesterday) that I am not a fan of most cake flavours. I like vanilla, chocolate, madeira, caramel and that's about it (and bee-stings, for that honey plus vanilla yumminess). He brought home these amazing cup cakes (6) in berry, jaffa and lemon. As I was feeling really sick (as in borderline nauseous), I did not even attempt any of them. Tonight I nibbled the lemon one, sans the lemon icing. Gotta go, DD wants out of the bath! |

May I join?
I've got a whole person to lose. I'm currently a sz 18-20. I'm insulin resistant. I tend to give up about week 6-8 because I get tired of fighting myself and only losing 1-2kgs despite eating correctly and exercising every day. I eat my stress. I want to be healthy and be able to buy clothes without it being a big emotional event. I hate shopping for clothes. |

Of course, Delilah! Welcome!
I think many of us here could have written your post at some point. I'm insulin resistant too, it came as a real shock. Since losing weight my levels have come right down, thankfully, though I'm still on medication (not quite sure why). I'm only 23, so far too young to be headed for Type 2 diabetes. Do you take Metformin, or are you treating with diet and exercise? |
