My dd only prefers to lie on one side of her head. I try and move her head to the other side while she sleeps but after a few minutes she turns it back. I wonder if a chiro could help? During tummy time I turn her head as well but she just cries, i think her neck is quite tight.
TIA
Eta she is a month old

I'm more familiar with the use of Paediatric Physios for this ? positional turn of the head. Some people take their babies to a Chiro or an Osteopath instead.
Have you talked to your CHN re this? That might be a first step.
I hope your dd feels better soon. All the best.

Yes I took mine to a chiro at about a month old. He was doing the same thing. His neck muscles were so tight that when you held him up with his shoulders front on, you would be looking at his ear.
It was affecting the way he fed, and I had concerns about the shape of his head, as well.
I only went once, the chiro gave me some exercises, she did some adjustments and massage/stretches on him. I should have gone back, but (without going into history) the poor guy had spent most of his life in Dr's Waiting Rooms, and something had to give.
Anyway his head shape is good, and his neck seemed to loosen up too. So I think it was worth it.
Some people recommend them for gas/wind problems, which is why I originally planned to go, but he was farting like a trooper by then.

We took my daughter at 5 weeks, more for colic and reflux reasons and he showed me which muscles were really tight and how I could massage them. She was a different baby after that one visit.

No experience with a chiropractor, but our 6 month old DS had the same problem and also had a preference for looking in same direction when awake (Torticollis). His pediatrician recommended seeing a paed physio
Most hospitals have these available or you can see one in private practice. We see the Physio monthly where she assesses DS and gives exercises for the next month to do at home - it has improved a lot
Your health nurse or GP would be the best place to start - good luck :-)

DS had the same problem & quite a flat head one side. I went to a chiro at 4 months for maybe 6 sessions. TBH I'm not sure if it helped but I can tell you that his neck did seem to have more movement & he was happier on his tummy.
He's now 8 months old & the flat spot has all but gone & his head looks normal again.
You call also speak to a Physio too

Had same issue with my son, plus seriously asymmetrical head from position inside prior to emergency c/s
Chiro definitely helped, as did earlier ecommendations by early childhood centre re not forcing movement, dangling toys on side they aren't favoring, etc

Best friends little boy was just like your baby - but he was getting a sloped head like Gumby!
Chiro fixed bub and his head evened out very quickly.
I have taken both my babies to our family chiro at 7-ish days old to check for birth trauma which can be the cause of these things.

Yes, I did a lot of this too. Trying to get him to move his head on his own.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with her son. He preferred to lie to one side and began getting a flat head as a result. She took him to a kids chiro and he started improving straight away. From memory I think it was just the one chiro visit with some exercises to do at home.
He's no 3 and has no problems at all.

My bub went to the chiro at 4 weeks. He'd had a traumatic birth with a lot of head manipulation and trauma, and the chiro helped immensely. The change was pretty much immediate for a lot of things, and with regular visits, it has helped adjust other problems - like favouring one side, and not being able to lift his head during tummy time.

My DD had a preference for looking over her left shoulder and sleeping with head on left. Took my DD to Osteopath for baby cranial massage and check of alignment of neck and spine. Osteopath checked her out and found a tension point which she massaged/stretched out over 3 sessions. Also she advised us to dangle toys and do interesting things on the right side to promote DD to move her neck to the right in her own time. All turned out fine, after a few months DDs head lost the slope it had on the left and became a normal head shape. I like Osteos, ours was very much into self-help ie: exercises and lifestyle changes to enable the body to work.

I took my son to a baby physio to correct a similar problem. She gave me a list of exercises to do at home and he was fine within a couple of weeks.
No independent study has ever demonstrated that chiropractic care is of any benefit to children.
Regardless, I wouldn't trust anyone to 'manipulate' my newborns skeletal system.

Yes. There is a great one here in Melbourne. I've taken DS2 and now DD and I'm very happy and comfortable with the treatment.

yes, my daughter had colic and i was given advice to try a paed chiro, made a huge difference not only in the movement of her neck (which i didnt realise it was stiff but was clear as day) and she was more relaxed even after the first session
a friend of mine also went recently with her little one and it helped a lot.

Yes definitely recommend - but research & go to one specializing in babies. Took all 3 of mine. One had a specific 'one side preference' - fixed after a couple of weeks
However I'm not a believer of 'regular / every fortnight or month' visits - but each to their own & own wallet

Yep, DD was manually turned before delivery and then forceps. Never slept well until seeing chiro. DS favours one side of head so seeing chiro tomorrow to sort that out. PM me if you want details of highly regarded baby specialist chiro in Melbourne.

DS favoured one side and was getting flat head on that side. We went to a paediatric osteo and she was amazing. Only 3 sessions but after each one he would have a breakthrough the next day, like rolling over or sleeping on the non favoured side.
Now at 12 months his head is still a little flat on one side but we think it is from in utero as cord was round his neck and kept him in awkward position.
She did cranial pressure treatment and some spinal work. Would never trust someone without the paediatric training for it, though.
