Ok so I have a great fairy costume and had it in my head that it was going to be my saviour on teacher dress up day for bookweek, but now a theme has been announced and I'm stuffed ddoh.gif. So wonderful world of EB, any really snazzy ideas that aren't going to be the stock standard athletes and superheroes?

ETA: I teach at a kindy level so it needs to be something not too obscure. Tounge1.gif

Smart clothes with a big blue ribbon with gold"CHAMPION" or "FIRST PLACE" written on it?

Not very subtle though.

Argh! Theme would kill me! Mine is all planned ... If I could only find the shoes I was planning to convert.

I can't even think of something for my DD to dress up as! I need ideas too!

Does 'fairy godmother' count as a champion laughing2.gif

Strap a laundry basket on your back, drag a stuffed bunny and go as the Tortoise (tortoise and the hare).

Carry a satchel full of dead pheasants and go as Danny, the champion of the world (a little esoteric and gruesome)

Put on pink ears, a snout and curly tail - Babe/The Sheep-Pig

Throw on a cape?

To cinderalla it probably would and to a bunch of 5yrs olds, they would GAF either! biggrin.gif

I say go in the costume you have already sorted. Tooth Fairy; Fairy Godmother; Glenda the Good Witch; All of them are characters that kids can relate to.

I have the same problem but it is also my 2 kids and myself!

I have no idea at all!!!

An australian gold medalist? My DD has champion theme too.....I think that might be an option for her!
ingrid74
We are doing Australian gold medalist. She has a Green and Gold soccer top. Then we will make a gold medal (or just use one of her play ones from her obstacle course at school) and make an olympic torch

Stupid bloody theme. Hooray for taking reading and turning it into an event that is all about sports. rolleyes.gif

Our school has specified Olympic champions and has made it clear that gymnastics and swimming gear is not to be worn. They may as well call it 'wear a tracksuit to school' day. It beats me how it is supposed to be fun or inspiring.

Marie Curie - Nobel Prize winner?

*is irritated by non book costumes in book week*

I know the theme this year is 'Champions Read' but seriously. It's BOOK Week. How har dis it to make the theme 'characters from a book'?

Dorothy: dress, basket, stuffed dog. original.gif

The theme is a character from a book that has been turned into a movie at my school. My dd is going as Katnis Everdeen and I am going as Professor Trelawney.
Barefoot
Put some feathers in your hair and go as the pheasant from Danny, champion of the world.
lizzzard
Bruce Whatley's "The Boing Boing Races" *springs* to mind (excuse the pun Tounge1.gif). I can't remember who wins the race but I think it might have been Emu? You would make skirt of feathers and maybe some emu feet?
SlinkyMalinki
What about Molly Weasley, she's a champion.
Pooks*potters
Pocahontas?

Ahh - go with your original theme! Our school usually mentions the Book Week theme, but the only real restrictions are no superheros (Batman etc) or swords/guns, otherwise the kids go wild at recess with fighting games which always end up with someone getting hurt.

But, what about the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio? For kindy kids, the Tooth Fairy is a BIG deal.

I thought I was organised and purchased DD costume weeks ago- Wicked witch from the wizard of OZ. I found out last the theme will be 'Champions Read'.

I don't plan on buying another costume, she will still be going as the witch.
Julie3Girls
My girls are all going in Harry Potter gear ... he was a tri-wizard tournament champion original.gif

I agree with howdo - what's wrong with making book week dress up a character from a book? Otherwise we end up with sports themes (haven't there been enough Olympic glorifying evens already?) or superheroes - would be nice to do a book character.

OP go with the fairy dress - Cinderella's godmother is a champion!

Koufuku
I'm another one who cringes at all the Spidermans (Spidermen?), Batmans, Transformers and generic fairies every Bookweek. It's an event to promote the thoughtful discussion of literary characters, not a quick whip down to Kmart for a ready-made superhero costume to plop your kid into so they can wear fancy dress.

I think I'm going to abandon the Champions theme. I'm thinking about doing a class theme of "Hairy Maclary" and getting all the kids to make masks of a dog or cat. Save the parents some hassle. I might go as Miss Plum. Actually, there is "Hairy Maclary's Showbusiness", which I could link to Champions.
