My new bubs is almost four weeks old and last week we were called up by the hospital to redo the heel pr*ck test. My concern was that I thought you were normally recalled within days not weeks.Anyway it has been a week since we redid the test and I havent heard back so I assume everything is ok
Has anyone else had to do a retest?
Thanks for any info

Hi Amy
Do you know why your baby's card needed to be recollected? I worked for NNS in Qld, and we would send out a letter for the reason to recollect. Usually a recollect is because the sample wasn't suitable for testing, and a small percentage were because of abnormal results. Essentially to get recalled to retest doesn't mean that your child has one of the disease tested.
Your Q about timeframe. It does take longer than a few days to process samples, sometimes the samples may arrive a week after being colleced, then a few days in lab, then a few days to send out paper work etc so it can take longer than expected. I have often seen recollect card on babies older than 4 weeks, due to time for the processes to occur. Hence they usually state a month for no news is good news.

I would give 2 weeks for the retest, then contact the place that contacted you for the retest. I think they should notify you since you had a restest, however only know Qld's policy.

Hope this has eased your worries, if you have any other concerns you are welcome to ask me. Take care and keeping my fingers x for nice normal results.

I am sorry that both you and you baby had to go through this again! I cried more than the babies when they got it done....Hayden had to have his done twice in one day and then the blood clotted and had to be done again the next day - poor little man, he went through so much and it just broke my heart.....

I would presume they could let you know within the day or so - but 4 weeks OMG!

Hello

We're in QLd and had to retest and yes, you don't hear back if everything is OK - I know, I know, doesn't help does it.

So hang tight, sounds as if everything is fine.

Cheers

Cindy
