Okay - I just want to be sure that my DD is not the only one who will not sleep when we are out and about.

She sleeps okay at home for day sleeps either in her swing or in her cot but we headed out today to visit a friend and she would not sleep at all and was quite unsettled. I think she is just making sure she does not miss anything.....

Any suggestions??

She will sleep in the car if we go for a drive but wakes as soon as we stop. For going out, I use a combo of Baby Bjorn sling and her pram - makes no difference.

She is almost 4 months old....

I would not mind her being awake the whole time if she was a happy bub but she is quite obviously tired and needs a snooze. We end up coming home very overtired and really struggle to get her down for any kind of nap.

Sorry for long post, just a bit frustrated :confuse:

Hello!!! You are so not alone here! My DD never really sleeps when we are out, and it has really bothered me, She seems ok, doesn't grizzle or cry, she is generally a content baby. I know she needs slee tho, and i try to get her down in the pram, sleep school said wrap her give her dummy and leave her with the pram covered, but we will get 20 mins if we are lucky...I wish I had a baby that slept more, but she like yours just doesn't want to miss out on anything, and she is very alert.
I guess all I can suggest is that u just have to perservere with what you are doing when you are out, andtry to get back into the swing of how you do things when you get home...
Sorry I haven't been any help, just wanted to let you know you are not alone original.gif

Wow, and I was about to post a similar thread about my DD. She's now 7mths and still won't sleep anywhere but in her OWN cot, the carseat if the trip is at least 30 min and very occasionally in the pram.
We were at my BIL on Sat. and they let me put DD in their son's cot to sleep. She screamed so hard we ended up taking her out and took turns sitting her on someone's lap until we finished our lunch. She was grumpy, tired and clingy for the entire 3 hours we were there. Got home, put her in her cot, and bam, 2min later, fast asleep.

DH says I need to 'train' her to sleep elsewhere. Was about to smack him. I've taken her to friend's houses many times and she never sleeps. Only once, when I set up the pram in a bedroom and had to stand and rock her to sleep and she only slept 45min.

I envy those mums whose babies sleep anywhere. I think some babies just won't sleep unless the environment is right.

Thanks silatpd for posting this topic because I know I'm not alone.

Ditto for me on a baby that won't sleep anywhere but in her own bed or the car!

She wouldn't sleep in a pram from about 1 week old onwards, and now she will only sleep in her cot at home or in the car seat if we are on a long (over 30 minute) drive.

I must say I'm very jealous of people who have babies that will sleep anywhere!

From a different angle, we contradict ourselves in a way because we spend the first few months of their lives trying to get them comfortable and confident enough to sleep independantly in their own cot and then we change our minds and decide that they have to be able to sleep when and where we need them to... doesn't seem very fair to them but I guess life has to go on.

Cheers Leia.

Hi there ladies ~ I have luck with getting Hayden and Brooklen to sleep anywhere I am. I use the wrap that they get wrapped in for bed and I use the same routine, nappy, wrap, kisses and told that its time to go to bed......On friday we went for a walk when it was sleep time and I did this routine, wrapped and in the pram and they slept 3 hours....
Obviously things dont work for everyone, but give it a try....Wishing you all the best
