Wasn't gonna post but now I will.

I think Idol should be left as a "karaoke singer wannabe" comp because people like Bobby, who have talent and are brilliant and soulful at what they do, get shunnned by audiences who like cookie the cutter variety of popstars.

There is no room in the competition for people with real talent and I really think he should go as he's not being nurtured properly.

As for the rest of the singers,
Dean - Seen it, gonna get the "cute" factor.
Ricky - Seen it, don't need another Usher
Joseph - Go to your local church and you'll see them there.
Klancie - Go to the local pub outback and she'll be there
Mutto - Hard working gigging guy, seen it
Damian - Seen too many to count!
Jessica - Seen but young, could surprise.
Lavina - Seen and done to death already!
Chris - Done and done
Reigan - Seen that too, could have potential
Lisa - Could have potential, give her a guitar people!!!

A question - Damian lives in the share house right? Do you live close enough to drop in and see him? Are you allowed to stay there too if you want? (not trying to get personal, just wondering if friends or family are allowed to do that, tell me to butt out if I'm crossing the line!!! ).

I don't believe any of them were outstanding last night. Damien wasn't as good, nor was Lisa and those two are the best.

Each year we say this is the best top 12 ever. The top 12 are always great but never better than the year before.

I also agree that Lisa didn't do a very good job tonight, and she needs to pronounce her words better.

And I'm sorry, but I think the only people who should sing U2 songs are U2, noone does it good enough.

I didn't watch all the singers last night - I am trying not to get hooked - I refused to watch the last two years because it was WOEFUL. But this bunch seem to be pretty good. I just have to say that Bobby's singing sends shivers down my spine and I thought his performance last night was outstanding - it seriously brought tears to my eyes (pregnancy hormones?!!?). If he doesn't get a recording contract out of this whole thing then they are doing him and themselves a serious injustice.

So disappointed in Lisa's performance - she was the one I had tipped to win, but her singing last night was overshadowed by terrible nerves which made it painful to watch and listen to. So sad, because I think she's got the most amazing voice (certainly the best female voice of the competition). Again, she's just got to get a recording contract out of this.

I think Lisa was the worst performer of the night.

But given that she's 16 and a high school student you can bet your bum that her entire school will vote for her, which is an unfair advantage (in my opinion) to other contestants who are older and don't have this kind of support. I mean, we all have mobiles but do we really "waste" our money SMSing all over the place? I have a 13 year old son and he is texting EVERYONE ANYWHERE ALL the time!!!

So based on this fact alone, I think Joseph will go. Crap song choice!

I know this will be unpopular as I know her friend is on this website, but I don't think Klancie can sing all that well at all and I think with Bobby, you either love him or hate him. My husband thinks he was awful, but I don't mind him - he has a particular style that I think you either get or you don't. I don't think he'll last long in the comp because of that.

I think the most talented last night was Lavina, but I think there's a bit of a backlash against her because of the Emily relationship. Like people think she's up herself or too cocky or something like that. But based on the performance alone, she was the standout for me.

Oh, and Dean is my tip to win Idol, merely based on his eyes and smile. Although I realise that isn't fair.

That's a bit harsh, who says he's 'witnessing', he's just being himself. I think the hair and writing make him an individual, like a trademark.

Who is the guy with the looooong fizzy hair? Cut it! I hate it. He thinks it's the hair that girls will love and get him through. Well he said that a few weeks ago but I hate it.

Personally, I think Bobby is in a league of his own. Good on him for being so different from all the other R&B crap that's out there. I worry about him though, being so different. I think he is too good for Idol, too left of centre, too Triple J 'Unearthed' rather than Idol 'mainstream'. But its exposure and a stepping stone. Regardless of what happens on Idol, he will go far is my prediction. Same with Lisa. She is different too, and I think she will be ok with the other genres, she will add her slant to it and do well - she's 16 for goodness sake! She has a lot of depth and maturity, she is very inward, certainly not your typical giggly 16 year old teenager like I was at her age! Im glad to see that some are breaking the mould a little this year.

Having previously been a church goer - I actually hadn't picked anything up on Mutto 'witnessing', nor picking up that he was singing a song from a christian group. The hair bothers me, better with a beanie or fully shaved, but I think he's gorgeous anyway. The hand writing is fine - its good enough for Chris Martin, whats so bad about Mutto doing it?

Muttoo is seriously HOT! He is a great singer with heaps of personality and while the whole working the crowd thing a little tired he rocked!

Damien is amazing, everytime I hear him he gets better. Kyle really needs to take a look in the mirror!

Lavina was great but she is so similar to her sister I don't hink she will last long unless she can the right song to break away into independence.

Klancie was brilliant! Finally a version of Joelene I could actually sing a long too!

my take on last night was:

Dean - I missed the song but saw the short and was not overly impressed

Joseph - I did not think he did a very good job, that song was my fav from years ago and I would of thought he would of done a better job!

Ricky - I think he is a little same old, same old

Damian - He is one of my favs I think he will make at least top 5

Jessica - like the performance but not sure she will win Aust Idol

Lisa - I think she looks so much nicer without makeup and I think she mad the wrong song choice, I hope she chooses a missy higgin song next!

Bobby - I really dont like him, I think he is trying *too* hard too be different, that and my husband was a few years above him at school and said he was weird back then.

Lavina - another same old same old

Chris- he was ok but nothing GREAT

I thought they were all great last night. It's the first time I've sat down and concentrated on the show - some of them I hadn't seen perform yet, so I really enjoyed it.

Eileen - tell your DH to talk more so we get to fall in love with his accent! I loved the bit where you planted one on him in the park - so sweet.

I'll go against the grain and say I really enjoyed Lisa tonight - the "performance" was woeful, but her singing was magical.

Love that sig Ariarnhrod!! Bobby's song just brought me to tears, as I said. I was listening on the radio, so didn't see him, but somehow that was really nice, to hear all the light and shade, absolutely magical. He will do so well with the changed genres each week.

I also think they did pretty well over all, although most seemed nervous at first (to be expected on their first night with an audience that size). I know I couldn't do it

These guys were the best:
Bobby - I just loved him!! Love the song & love how he sung it!! Don't like his hair though!
Damian - The Irish guy? He was just great
Lavina - Can't deny it, the girl can sing!!!

These guys were the worst:

Ricky - I didn't bother watching him - hated Anthony Callea & hate his style (or copycat style)
Joseph - They raved over him, but I though he sounded pretty crappy - but he's got the most beautiful eyes
Lisa - What a let down.. I love her voice but didn't like her performance - the 'scared deer in the headlights' look has worn off I think... I think she might be the one to go this week!!

Here's my take on last night:

Bobby - Wow! AMAZING. Bobby has really grown on me, he's just that raw & natural talent. When I read people putting him down it makes me a little sad. Just because he's hair is out there and he isn't "the boy next door" doesn't mean he isn't talented. I wish people could be a little more open minded and just listen to his music.

Klancie - She blew me away! I loved her version, she was flawless. Congrat Klancie.

Damien - I love his voice and his personality is so infectious. I think he did a great job last night.

Dean - I didn't really know the song so I wasn't sure if he was singing it well or not?? However, he's definately got stage presence and the camera just loves those eyes.

Lavina - Wow that that girl can sing, no doubt about it. I keep reading so much about the comparisions with her & Emily and think that's a bit unfair. Their sisters, so naturally there's going to be some similarities and even though she sometimes dresses like Emily doesn't mean she's copying her, maybe they just have the same taste??

Lisa - I love Lisa but she does look a little lost on stage but I think that could be worked on. She's definately got an amazing voice and deserves to go further.

Jessica - She's got a great voice but I don't think the song was a great choice. A friend of mine suggested she should sing a Christina Aguilera song and I think she could really pull that off well.

Chris- I really like his voice but his performance was nothing specatular but he's not going anywhere soon.

Mutto - Great voice, great performance (I hate saying this but I really prefer the beanie).

Reigan - What a beautiful voice and she did a great job but I can't help thinking when George sing it, it's just so effortless and I think Reigan should have sung a song that flowed a little easier for her.

Ricky - I want to like him but I just am tired of hearing him sing R&B. I really think he's got more to offer than the boring stuff he's done so far. I unfortunately didn't like his performance.

Joseph - Such beautiful dimples, such a sweet boy but I think next year could have been his year. He's got the talent but just needs to develop it a bit more.

I think it might be Joseph going tonight.

Everyone has their own style & are all really talented. Well done to them for having the guts to put themselves out there to be judged.

I don't recall James or Andrew ever saying Soulframe it's just been "Mutto's band" "your band" "playing in a band doing gigs in pubs"

I think Mutto is being very subtle with his "witnessing". And FWIW since they're encouraging the Idols to sing original music I'd love him to bring out some Soulframe music - my favourite is Walk Away.

It's very interesting that some years they really focus on the religion of a person Guy, Paulini, Dan O'Connor, Rebecca T (wildcard idol 1 was on Hillsong stage when she got the call)
and others you just know that they are but it's just a private thing.

I missed Idol last night DH wanted to play Grand Tourismo 4 - I did see Damien's and Joseph's. I thought Damien was wonderful and Joseph woeful.

The top 24 performance Mutto sang a Switchfoot song. Switchfoot is a well known Christian band that recently cracked into the Mainstream. With the song Dare You to Move being used for on the OC and channel 10s ads for the OC.
He sang the song Meant to Live off the album meant to live. Personally I think he should have done Gone or More then Fine or even Dare you to Move but whatever.
Swicthfoot have 5 albums plenty of material to choose from.

And lets face it Kyle said he wasn't familar with Reigan's choose of the same George song that either Casey or Hayley sang two years ago (they both did George songs on the same night).

Bobby reminds me very much of Jeff Buckley, he has that same eerie, haunting'ness to him. I would buy a Jeff Buckley record over a Kanye West kind of record any day thanks! Unfortunately that aforementioned quality of singing and lyric is lost on the young teeny boppers of today......

Mark keeps making references to Idol focussing on singer/songwriters this year, which is exactly what Bobby & Lisa are. Both of them sung an original song at their audition didn't they? Instead of repeating the same old, same old crap that you hear every year at auditions.

And who cares if Mutto is writing 'that' on his hand. Its obviously something he believes in, just as Chris Martin from Coldplay believes in Fair Trade. I dont see the big deal!?

Is there an 'Inside Idol' this year or just that guy doing that other thing on mobile phones and website stuff? I liked the show with Leah McLeod, gave you more of an insight into their character.

My thoughts are pretty similar to most PP's.

I thought over all the night was great and that they all did a pretty good job. Personally I think the bottom 3 will be Joseph, Lisa and ?? I like Lisa as a sweet little girl but dont get the raves she gets. Yes, she has an interesting voice but I think a whole album of it would drive me crakers (I would be switching off afetr a couple of track because I think they would all sound the same). Joseph was too nervous, not a good song choice but may still appeal to the young audience.

Mutto - loved the performance and the song but also think that U2 is a bit sacred (how ironic then with all the talk of his faith - ps, give him a break on that issue because he is not bashing the subject, just making his own quiet comment).

Chris - have a real soft spot for him, great song choice for his voice but agree with PP about him always singing his songs to 'straight'. He needs to jump off the beat al little more.

Ricky - dont want him to go too far but also dont want him to be the first to go coz he just wants it soooo much and I think he has had a pretty hard life so far. Soft spot for him too due to a Maltese connection.

Loved Bobby. Loved Klancie. Loved Damien.

Jessica is cute too but I dont think she will go too far. Great voice but dont think she is quite ready for it.

Lavina - ditto to all the comments about her looking too much like Emily (but true they are sisters so there is prob a similar style anyway)

Dean - hot, hot but didnt do that good a job.

Reigan - Love her, love the song. Again a soft spot coz shes from Perth!!

I actually thought Klancie did a good job singing last night but somebody needs to help her with her wardrobe it is getting worse every week.

I feel sorry for Ricky, he obviously wants it so much but he goes over the top and ruins it.

Joseph was pretty awful too, Chris was okay. I don't really like Reigan for some reason and I think she looked too much like Kate D'Araugo last night. Lavina is a good singer but scary looking!

Even if Lisa gets voted off I think she will be scooped up by someone. As Kyle said she could be the best thing that has come out of Australia music...ever. I don't ever agree with Kyle but do agree with that.

I do wonder about the types that actually vote. Are they the kind who listen to Top 40 stations like B105 here in Brisbane? I am so not a fan of that kind of music. I don't know the equivalent of that station in other Australian cities.

It would be nice if someone so not mainstream won but I guess Idol is all about being mainstream. I should stop watching Idol as I know i'll be disappointed with the outcome.

ok, Klancie: go away. A pp said 'put your t*ts away' and I agree. All she has done is have her chest pushed up to her chin, and sing very badly. The song Jolene, if you listen to Dolly Parton's (she wrote it) and Olivia N-J's version of it, that's how the chorus at least should be sung. The main highlight of the chorus is to ride up to the higher register. Klancie basically cheated in the singing dept as she never even TRIED to ride that note. She seriously cannot sing....oh and the last note she didn't hold at all well, it faltered badly. Here she 'cheated' again. She just did the ol' 'sing the last note loud and long (doesn't matter if you're in key or not)'- the audience will go maaad and think you're great. oldest trick in the book.
